Hey all, I'm helping out a buddy, he's a noob who just got his PAL and wants my advice to kit up his first firearm. He's got a Ruger Ranch in .223.

He wants an affordable low power variable optic, with an illuminated reticle. But he's got three young kids and money is VERY tight.

He's decided he wants a Bushnell AR LPVO but can't decide between first or second focal plane. He's an inexperienced shooter but he's got property in the prairies so he'll be able to take longer range shots.

The two options he likes that he can afford are either:

1-4x in FFP,

or

1-6x in SFP.

Which would you recommend to him and why? (He's settled on the Bushnell, I'm not going to talk him into a vortex'or primary arms or leupold that he can't afford anyways)
