loading for 45 colt , for use in a 1892 rifle .

I did google this , and it appears that some people are successfully using large rifle primers in 45 colt cases .

is there anyone here who have done this ?

did it work for you ?

i'm out of pistol primers , and recently found a couple of boxes of large rifle primers I had stashed away .

yes I know the rifle primers are taller and may protrude , is there a easy way to get around this ?

I tried this with a 92 in .38-40 and ran into feeding problems. My gunsmith pointed out something I was unaware of, that large rifle and pistol primers are not the same size. Both are of the same diameter, but SAAMI shows large rifle primers as being 0.123-0.133" high, but large pistol primers 0.115-0.125" tall. The diameters are the same, but the taller rifle primers could not be seated far enough in the cases I had not to bind when feeding. (Small rifle and small pistol primers are the same, however.)

YMMV
