LR = Long Rifle
RM = Rim Fire
.22's are rimfire as opposed to centrefire. That means the primer is distributed around the rim of the shell and ignited when the firing pin crushes it.
.22's come in 3 common sizes; Short, Long and Long Rifle, each a bit longer than the previous.
