So I've decided to build an Israeli kit onto an LRB receiver. Going for a classic M14 look, likely with a gi wooden stock.

So question is, go with a standard receiver and get a decent mount if I use optics, or go with the M25 receiver?

As I understand it, the LRB M25 receiver is an offering unique to them and won't necessarily look the part of a gi rifle.

What do you guys say? Pros/cons of M14 vs M25 for this kinda build?

I've done both. Both look great with classic walnut....the M25 has the built in rail, I don't think it detracts from appearance. If money isn't an issue and you are going to mount an optic anyways, I would say you can't go wrong with LRB M25.

..unfortunately, I don''t have a photo of my LRB build, but here is the Norc/IDF Norc in walnutIDF M14 Norc TRW Walnut Right Rear.jpg

Yeah. I've literally built dozens of m14's, but never on an LRB, at least not yet.

The difference in price is negligible, I'm just not sure which I want.

I’m a fan of the M25 for a dedicated scope build...

Here’s mine.

I’ve since added a 20moa rail. I haven’t settled on which scope I’m going to use, stuck between a Bushnell Elite Tac 6-24x50 or a recently acquired Vortex Razor HD 6-24. I’m still finalizing a load, the end goal is a 1000y gong ringer... Currently this rig is putting 10 rounds of factory ammo into 2.35” at 200y.

I'm just going to use a nice GI H&R barrel, not a medium or heavy target bbl, so it will be no 1000yd gong ringer. But it will be light enough to actually carry around - lol.

/l\ Yup...the flaw in the M14 action is the poor scope mount potential. The M25 is the next logical step in the M14 evolution.

That's not entirely true. The arms and brookfield-based options like the sadlak are excellent mounts. Like most things, if you cheap out on the mount, the rig will be lacking.

I hear that.... that build of mine got “out of hand” pretty quickly... it started out as a IDF HB kit, but the barrel had too much throat erosion to be re-used. So I found a full HB I had tucked away in the barrel drawer and installed that instead. And the McMillan stock... it cost more than the M25 action... This hasn’t been a “budget” friendly build.... but it’s only 12.5# as seen in the pic.

That GI barrel your planning on using will be a solid performer, I would be willing to put a Tim’s DD on it being a solid 800y preformer!

Should be ok. But not the equal of the Krieger medium profile I had on my last match rifle. Oh well.

That other gun was a pre-2007 norc with a matching h&r parts kit. I should not have sold it, it was awesome.
