Who in Canada imports these two rifles now? Wanstall's was bringing in the James River product, but are they still doing so and what about an importer for the LRB?

Does anyone have either or both of these rifles, and how do they compare?

Many thanks,

The thing that bothers me a little about JRA is that on their fully built guns, they don't tell if they have unitized cyclinders or any other accuracy mods done to them. You kind of don't know what your buying, and for the money you should.

My understanding, though I certainly could be wrong, was that they built them as close as they could to USGI spec; so no unitizing or accuracy mods, just battle-ready.

I spent a couple hours on the phone a little while back having this same discussion with Tim, the owner of Warbird Custom down in Texas.
None of the top tier M14 clones are flawless 100% of the time but both stand behind their product. To me, assuming that both JRA and LRB are companies that are indeed the top tier in the M14 industry, it is a hard choice.
The LRB M25 receivers are an innovation that made my decision a simple one as it did away with the need for a seperate bolt on mount.

For owner/user comparisons on the two company's products I think Canadian forums are a poor source for good info however. I say this because there are an insignificant number of them in Canada compared to the US.

Im interested in a JRA M1A as well, but cant find any hints of its accuracy or performance ANYWHERE ... that alone is off putting enough that Im kind of leaning towards a SA NM M1A.

If the LRB you want is not in stock up here anywhere, your best to deal with LRB directly and use an importer. They are fantastic to deal with and will make you the rifle you want. Not cheap but you won't do worse dealing direct with them. Another good source is US gun auction sites. There are LRB's down south for private sale. Just got to make sure the seller will deal with you being in Canada. Some will and some won't.

I haven't spent a lot of time behind this yet ( about 40 rnds ) but so far I am very pleased with fit/finish, smoothness and accuracy of the JRA

Not my JRA but I am pretty sure it would be standard like mine. I get about About 3 inch groups at 100 metres. I haven't tested it again since I have shimmed the gas system and changed the op rod spring guide.

It is a standard and groups at 100 are 2.5-3 inch. Hope to improve with tweeks, For what it is, I am happy.

Hey Dreadshade:

Regarding those shims in your gas cylinder.... your JRA has american threads (of course) on the barrel. I'm outside Barrie, ON and we can eliminate all them shims FOREVER just by custom fitting different American (wish I could do this for all you Norc lovers) gas cylinder locks and selecting the tightest fitting lock. That's all it takes. No shims for now or forever! :)

Send me a message. Actually that same offer goes for all you M1A / LRB / SEI / JRA or anyone with an AMERICAN barrel. I keep TEN gas cylinder locks on hand JUST for this purpose! Yah, I know, I know that I'm the only source of uber-rare shim sets here in Canada, but I really would rather you get a proper fitting gas lock. If you know what I mean ;)

Cheers and keep helping all them nooobies around here!

Hey Barney,

Would love to take you up on that, but unfortunately, Barrie is quite far from me.
