I have read that you should size cast bullets within 24 hours of casting as the lead actually reaches maximum hardness after this time.

Should I lube, then size or size, then lube. Does anyone lube before AND after?

Uh, lube and sizing are done at the same time. I don't know why someone would want to run bullets through a luber-sizer twice.

Unless you are using a Lee push through sizer. Then you have to lube with Lee Camel Cu* before you size no matter what or else you will get leading of your sizer. Some guys will re-coat them after sizing, some don't.

Since I'm still waiting for the .357" sizer for my 9mm's in the RCBS, I lube with the .358" die and then final size in a Lee at .357". (If you're wondering, I slugged my barrels and .357" shoots better and no leading in all of my 9mm's instead of .356").

The so-called "experts" all say to do this within 24HRS, but in reality, who actually does? When we cast, we usually do a couple thousand bullets so it's always more than a day before we get them all sized. "We" meaning everybody I know who casts including myself. In reality, there is no real world difference when you size your bullets. :)

Guys who are water dropping like to lube promptly before the bullets get very hard if sizing is required at all. For a Lee push through a coat of Pam will do for sizing. Wipe clean and tumble lube with your Alox after sizing. If the bullet fits your gun as dropped from the mould use an oversize die in a lube-sizer to lube or tumble lube so the bullet surface is not damaged and the hardness compromised.
