Hi there. Just a little question regarding choke tube lube. After reading of a stuck choke tube recently, I thought about the choke tube in my Maverick. I had never taken it out since buying it back around 2002. Shot a few shells then, put away, shot a few more about 10 years ago, then finally brought it back out of hibernation. So, it came out very easily with no problems. But I would like to clean it up good and reinstall it, and was just wondering if the breach plug grease for my muzzleloader would be an acceptable lube for my choke tube? Thank you in advance for any help and opinions in this matter.

Most use a high temperature graphite grease of some sort. I use the Briely Choke Tube Lubricant. This type of product will keep the choke from rusting and also keep it from loosening.

If you are just storing it, then just about any grease would work.

Routine maintenance is all that is required.
By that I mean remove the choke and clean the threads and install with some good gun oil or a light duty grease.
The thread about the Stoeger leads me to believe there was something else going on either from brand new or operator error and I have no way of knowing what happened as I was not there.
Just my thoughts on that situation only.
There are stories of thousands of guns out there where the chokes have not been removed in years and yet when the idea comes to mind they (the chokes) come out easy.
No easy answer as there are many variables to consider.
Myself, I use G-96 and consider it as a first line of defense.

Anti seize anywhere it can or should be used. In line Breach plugs are a worst offenders cause folks think they need to be heman-ed into place and chokes just because it makes sense.

neos, have you had any success in removing the tube or is it going to stay installed permanently ?

Yes, mine came out very easily. The stuck one I referenced was to a recent thread that got my mind wondering about mine. I think I did mention mine came out easily in the first post. Thank you.

I believe that lube (grease or spray) should be used when there is metal to metal rubbing. Such as in actions and triggers

A good anti seize is better for fixed applications such as choke tubes. I would use some copper kote.

I have about 12 liters or so of topco api modified pipe dope. Probably 40 pounds of the stuff. Seems to work fine.
