Ok thanks for the pad tip. And so I understand, you lube inside the mouth not for the brass, but for the die?

Hello there,

I have found that lube is more important on the inside of bottleneck case necks than straightwall cases. I use the Lee case lube (a little goes a long way) and just a tiny wipe with a Q-tip inside every third or fourth case neck is all that is needed. You have judge for yourself when it is needed - you can feel the expander ball drag (and stretch the case neck) if you don't have enough. And you don't need so much that there is a visible residue inside the necks when you are done sizing.

The outside of the cases need a bit more, but with the Lee lube less is more. I usually wipe on a small amount with my index finger on about a third of the case just before sizing. As pointed out, keep excess lube away from the shoulder because the excess lube has no where to go (when full length re-sizing) and dents are the result. After sizing, wipe away excess lube on the outside of the case and if you have used the correct amount inside the case neck, there will be no excess lube to contaminate either powder or primer or tumbler media.

Hope this helps.

I just made the switch over to Imperial sizing die lube. All I can say is "Where's this stuff been all my life" I scrape the tiniest amount off my fingers into the case mouth every few cases, but then again they all go back through the tumbler again anyway.

Anybody ever heard of RCBS Case Slick. Line up the cases on a cookie sheet and spray away. ;) Throw them into the tumbler to clean all the lube off. With 1500, .308 cases I don't have time for a Q-tip.:p

I tried it on about 1500 223 cases, works great. I didn't bother spraying any into the neck or trying to avoid the shoulder and I had no problems. I have a carbide sizing die though (I have more money than sense.) Most of the bottle is left.

Side note: The bottle wasn't full when I got it though, I don't know if someone at the store is stealing a little out of every bottle or they come from the factory like that, but I was a little disappointed. I'm buying more anyway.

I have to agree with Dogleg. Imperial sizing die wax works very well, and a little goes a very long way. I just rub a tiny bit on the tips of my fingers and roll the case around in my finger tips. One application to my fingertips typically does 2-3 cases. After sizing, I just rub a small handfull of cases back and forth on a towel. A tin of wax only costs a couple bucks, and I'd say it will last for many hundreds of cases. Imperial also has a dry neck lube for lubing case mouths if needed.
