lubing shotshell wads

I want to load up some b.p. shotshells for trap shooting,12ga,and Im not quite sure on how to lube the fiber cushion wads.
I was going to use 50/50 beeswax and olive oil,should you soak the wad in the melted lube or do you just roll some on the outside edge?
I dont imagine it takes alot.But Im not sure.
Any suggestions would be helpful,thanx
 
For years I shot them dry but the last season I started to lube them by melting about a 50/50 mix of bees wax and Crisco. You mix should work well to as long as it doesn't melt enough to contaminate the powder on a warm day. Lubing makes clean-up way way easier and I wouldn't go back.

I melt it in a shallow pan and roll the wads all the way around in it. When hot the wads soak it right up but as it cools it starts to build up on the edge and then scrapes off again when you press them into the shells. Might not be as bad with plastic hulls as it is with brass shells.

The compression of the wad on ignition should press the lube out and almost form a layer between the wad and the barrel. Or thats my theory anyway...
 
Your best bet is to use some felt wadding, in place of the fibre wadding, the felt wadding can be soaked in melted BP lube such as SPG or more affordable Chambers lube, not sure if bore butter works for this. The size/shape of the felt wad is not so important, your other wadding will provide the seal, you just want to add some lube, get the felt at walmart or craft stores. The BP lube is an absolute must unless you want a 2 hour cleanup job!!!
