Claybuster said:I use a light synthetic grease made by Nye Corporation on the hinges of my over/unders. I only use it because I was given a bunch a few years ago by someone associated with the company.
Before that I used STOS which is a grease made by Ponsness Warren and usually available at most gun stores.
Sharptail said:In hunting conditions, where dirt, dust and grit prevail, I use no lubricant on the hinge at all. I believe that all it does is capture the grit and act as an abrasive paste. Under competition conditions, where a great many more rounds are expended and the gun is constantly being opened and closed, lubricating the trunions or hinge is advisable. I use the synthetic gear oil because it provides great protection and is unaffected by temperature. Sharptail
