Hi everyone,

just a quick question for the Norinco/polytech M305/M14s braintrust on here, has anyone got any experience with this lucas oil products X-tra heavy duty wheel bearing grease?

I understand that you can lube these rifles with just about anything in a pinch, but if anyone has something definitive to say about this product in particular i am all ears...

I usually use tetra grease, but i picked up big container of this stuff for fairly cheap and i thought i would (silly scenario warning) just keep it around if the day comes i cant get anymore tetra and need my rifles.

LUCAS SPEC SHEET: http://www.lucasoil.com/images/medialibrary/xtra_hd_grease.pdf

Thanks guys!!

I am sure it will be fine. I have been using synthetic wheel bearing grease on all my autos for quite some time and have great results. This stuff should be no different.

Any # 2 NLGI grease will work great. The Lucas X-tra Heavy Duty Grease, like others, has additional National Lubrication Grease Institute certification ratings GC and LB. My spreadsheet on lubricants compares the requirements of the U. S. military specification for rifle grease, MIL-G-46003A to the NLGI requirements for the GC and LB ratings.

If a grease is rated NLGI # 2 GC-LB it lines up pretty close with military specification rifle grease. The only bone to pick at, and it's not really an issue for civilians, is the water washout requirement. NLGI GC-LB grease will have a maximum water washout of 15 %. The military specification has a maximum of 4 %.

My lubricant spreadsheet gives my top grease picks. IMO, the best value due to price and availability is Valvoline Multipurpose GM in the 1 pound can. Again, if it's a wheel bearing grease, you're good to go. If you're shopping for a grease, if it's rated # 2 GC-LB, it's great stuff.

Thanks for posting this information from Lucas Oil. I added this product to the comparision spreadsheet which now has about four dozen products from several manufacturers. If you want a copy of my free Excel file on lubricants, send me an e-mail request. I don't do spam and I delete your e-mail upon reply.
