Has anybody tried removing Luger barrels? I made a brass barrel vice, clamped the barrel in the vice and with the slide off the gun and the action open, put a bar down the gap and smacked it sharply with a hammer. On most rifles, that would loosen it but on the luger, it does not even budge.
Are they exceptionally tight or is there something I am missing here?

They are the same to the extent that the barrel screws into a reciever ring on a Luger and also does so on most rifles. While a few rifles such as I think it is the P14 Enfield have a reputation for a barrel that is very difficult to remove, most are not particularly so.
My question was "are luger barrels exceptionally tight" and for a barrel which is screwed into the reciever and I recieved a private answer that yes they are.

The action is soft and i twisted one once doing what you are trying. I finaly got it free with a little heat from a propane flame. .45-90

Please, when removing a Luger barrel, make yourself a proper fitting fully
contoured barrel wrench that puts its main force on the fork lug below.
I used a 1/2" steel plate, drilled a large hole in it, and finished the final contour on
the milling machine with close tolerances and then welded a handle on it.

Heat up gently and with an extension on the wrench give it a sharp but
not heavy blow, and it will brake loose without any damage, even if you have to hit it a few times.
