Now ... I know there's 3000 variations but I'd like to know what the typical s/42 mismatched with restricted barrel goes for. I've been in touch with a dealer that specializes in the sale of Luger's and I'm uncertainf of his prices . He has a s/42 1937 dated Luger , mismatched magazine , the handles are not original nor are they German luger handles. They are black plastic. The catch is also mismatched. The pistol has been re-blued. This really takes away from the collector value for me and he's askin over 1800$. If this is a fair price I have no issue paying the 1800$ plus shipping and taxes. This is just the pistol , no accessories.

There is no collectors value, it's a shooter.
$1800 seems quite high for a shooter but if someone has no issue paying that much then the price is right.
You should look into the cost of re-barreling a prohib and go that route for a shooter.

I bought a 1936 s/42 for about that price, probably from the same place. It was all matching though, including a matching magazine. I bought it because I always thought they were a classic historic firearm that I have seen in movies since I was a kid (long time ago). I think the value is diminished anyway with the changed barrel, so refurbishing it shouldn't diminish it more IMHO. Unfortunately for those of us without a prohibited license, it's our only option. He does a nice job, I love mine and it is great fun to shoot. I replaced the original grips with new wooden ones, which are easy to find and not super expensive, my originals were fine, just wanted to save wear and tear on them. I have seen many non refurbished that are pretty rough, you shouldn't have that issue but it all depends on what you want the gun for.

I'd like to find something all matching minus the barrel of course. It has collector value to me if that makes sense. I don't have a prohib license and there's nothing I can do about that so going to a 106mm barrel is my only option.

Ask around who's doing barrel swaps, get a quote, put out an add out, and start looking for a nice, matching parts, prohib, get the smith to transfer it into his name, and then transfer to you as restricted with the new barrel.

What I did was contact Thelugercollector.com, told him what I wanted (matching etc), he said give him some time and he brought in a couple to choose from. Good guy.

Just checked.... They are sold out of them now...I actually had one in my Dlaskarms shopping cart for checkout at the beginning of the week. Should of jumped on one then. You snooze you lose..lol

1800 strikes me as a little high but who knows. It's not like they are on the EE all the time. It's a classic situation of it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay.

Maybe ask (politely) if the seller has some room to negotiate?

i see he had a s/42 Luger with a 1938 dated iron cross with ww2 binoculars with certificate of authenticity for the package for 1650$. I would have jumped on something like that in a heart beat but it's sold.

So rebarrelled restricted Lugers are worth about 1500-1800 then? Might make me want to sell mine, though I doubt the .30 Luger clambering helps any.

1800 is high for a mis matched. 1200 seems to be the going rate for a rebarreled. You can always buy prohb, ship to gunsmirth, get rebarelled and wait the 6 - 8 months to get it re-registered to restricted. Only worth while if you can get the pistol for 500-600. the 6 -8 month is if things go right. I have done three, first two were ok < 8 months, the third, year and a half and it should be issued any day now :). If you go that route, pm me and i can give u some pointers on what they need.

Richard.

I bought a matching numbers (except mag) 1940 Mauser Luger, 97% blueing, with restricted barrel from Peter at Lugercollector for $1225 shipped in 2013, I sold it for $1340 shipped in 2014 on the EE. It did not sell quickly at that price.
