There's no way of knowing if J.F. or the Holster was there, unless you have more proof, 50/50 chance, either he was or wasn't.
Anyone with a pencil could have written that in the last 90 years.
Now too bad he didn't write his full name and number, then you might be able to trace the history.

The holster was FREEE!!!

The penciled in markings just have that look of age...there are ancient wear marks OVER the marks

not a big deal but I want to believe:p
 
Often a story has at least a kernel of truth, when it comes to antiques and collectables.
I personally know or knew many WWII vets, who pass on a story to me when I receive any trophy they wish to add to my collection.
