I recently experienced the heart breaking moment where I could not pick up a beautiful 1942 example because it was ~ 1/32 of an inch short and in the prohibited category. The seller made mention that there are Lugers that fit in the restricted category with the lengthened barrel (but not without having to modify the one I was interested in by putting on a longer barrel). I am aware of the artillery Luger variant but I wanted to ask here first before posting in the Equipment forum. As of this moment, I am only aware of two variants; the one in the prohibited category and Artillery variant.

The question is this: Are there Lugers out there that fit in the restricted category but are not the artillery Luger variants ?

And another mini question for those keeping up to snuff with the CFO. I did not have the privilege of obtaining my prohibited license but I do have my restricted license as well as collectors status. Is there anyway I can enter the prohibited category to pick up a prohibited Luger ?

Thank you for the assistance.

I was afraid that was the only way...so sad really to know what happens to these firearms after they have already been passed down once.

I will take closer look at the seller I was talking with and see if I can get the Luger properly measured, with any luck it will be in the restricted category.

Thanks for the replies everyone, it really helps answer a burning question I have had for months.

The Lugers with the longer barrels just don't look right, though. :p

1906 Luger

There are 1906 commerical Lugers with longer barrels and I think they look great. I have pictures but no URL to post them.

I wish the criteria for classification was for overall length, not barrel length. From what I've heard, the P-08 is "longer" than the P-38 yet still maintains the prohib status.

Not likely there was a mistake. If it is an original barrel then it is 98 mm / 3.9 in.

If it was rebarreled to make it non-prohib then it would be restricted only.

You can buy aftermarket barrels that are 4.25 in.

I am getting a 1941 Luger re-barreled. It is a shame the barrel has the Nazi insignia on it and it will have to be sent to the CFO to be destroyed.... Damn shame if you ask me. Destruction of history and I am party to it.....

I picked up a Pre-war commercial C-96 which is in the restricted category. The others that I saw at a gunshow where I picked mine up were all in the prohibited category (one being too short of a barrel and the other being fully automatic).

I would hate to give up any hope of getting a P.08 Luger but I guess I have no choice at this point. Last vote I am ever putting towards the Liberal party :kickInTheNuts:

Are these 1906 Lugers simply referred to as "P.06 Luger" ? Are they traditionally chambered for 9x19mm Parabellum ? I have not heard of this variant of Luger so I am guessing it is rare as well ?

Thanks.

You know friend, you need to stop asking questions and start doing a bit of research. Google is your friend. USE IT:slap:

When I got started in shooting, there was no internet. I bought or borrowed books, and did a pile of reading. All you have to do is google the word Luger, read and scroll. You will find it much more rewarding in the end.

OH, one last thing. So you can't have an original P08. Get over it.

There are lots of other original Lugers you can own. I own one P08 and two Swiss 06/29 Lugers. The Swiss Lugers are more reliable, accurate, and don't have that stupid shoulder stock lug digging into the palm of your hand.

Small minded people will complain that 7.65 Para cost more. Good, I'm glad it does. Leaves more Swiss Lugers for me to buy.

I did google it (the Luger P. 06) right after I read the post but all kept coming back to the P.08 variant.

I'm googling like mad right now trying to find some information. I'll let you guys know what I find out.

Luger 1906

This is from the standard catalog of the Luger

The 1906 Commercial model sold witnin Germany and abroad3500 to 4000 in 9mm with a 4inch barrel 5000 in 7.65 with 4 .75 inch barrel Made by DWM. If you send me your Email I will send you pictures. If they made it easier to post them I would.

There are non-conventional methods of increasing the lenght
by as much as 1/2", depending of the barrel.
They are quite expensive, but Luger can benefit of that.

The "original" parts notwithstanding,
Dlask makes 110mm barrels all the time.
