ihave this 42b, notice the holes on the hand guard
are they significant to the value?
the previous owner thinks the rifle is called a royal palace guard.
i cant find any info on this.
does any body in the forum know.

Never heard of this "variant" before. I will assume bubba as well, but, hey, maybe someone can chime in.

look at inside the holes? Are they still very cleanly cut without any type of finish? To me that could possibly be a dead give away for bubba.

holes in handguard

i tend to believe that it is bubbad too
but i found this on another site.

I gotta have it ...
Question :
This has round ventilation holes in the top handguard.
I know of 1 other AG42 without . Is this normal / correct ?

(so at least one other person has seen one)

(these are the asnswers he got.)

As far as I know this is not correct for the ljungman, all that i have ever seen have a solid wooden hanguard

didn't the danish version have a vented handguard? i've only seen pics of those. very likely someone put the holes in it here to help with cooling. y'all have a good day, Keith

(im pretty sure the danish one had a metal ventilated handguard)

so im still wondering if any body else has seen one.

maybe its a common bubba trick or did the same bubba do a couple?

and im still wondering about the royal palace guard thing.

thank you for the help

denis

Ha, that bubba job is funny because they kept the cleaning rod :D.

HA ! Your comment is a little obtuse Nabs, of course if it had a pipe cleaner wrapped around the forend it would be a legit Dane.....

i already know it's an ag 42b
my friend, who is selling it to me was told by the man that sold it to him
that it was special and worth more because it was a royal palace guard rifle.
now i will have to bust his bubble. because im not gonna pay a premium price on it. in fact it is worth less because of the bubba'd hand guard.

unless of course there was an actual royal palace guard version that looked like this:)

my friend has a bunch of other rifles from the same guy that i'm checking out. the old guy who sold them passed away a few years ago.

I cut it down and rethreaded it, Bubba cleans his guns ya know.

Walther_PPK Is "Ljungman" really that hard to spell? Yes It is and you missed "aint" I belive it's not an actual word.

Ps that is a very clean Ljungman you have there. Is the wood inside the holes lighter than the rest of the stock or is it the same shade finnish as the outside? If its lighter that would be a dead givaway that it was done later in the rifles life.

the holes do not go right through just half way then it's just pin holes
the rest of the way. i guess it's the only handguard like that in the world.

maybe i'll have to pay my friend a premium after all

but seriously folks it is a very nice rifle. even though the wood has been
refinished. everything else is a ok.

I love my Ljungman AG-42B. It has no holes...

I've not seen one like yours' either, but don't hate the look...if it's "Bubba" (I envision JB weld n' stick welder...) it's a tasteful one. You can still find the odd guard too.

You can be a bubba too...remove the gas-port screw (12 o'clock in gasblock, peened slot screw) and either get one made a touch longer (with a lock-nut) or, tap the hole to something common.
...voila, adjustable gas. Honestly a "serious consideration" if you're going to run anything other than orig surplus with no intent on chasing the brass...

I got the gas port tapped annd had a hex screw put in my two, I am very happy that I don't have to get a extra hunting tag for my mach 2 brass that kill the deer beside mine.
