Any of these ever get into the country? looks like a neat little carbine, kinda like a mp5 and an uzi mixed together. plus with the sytem for the barrel looks like it would be dead easy to make a non restricted barrel.

MP5 and an Uzi mixed together? That sounds like it would be a Double Prohibited firearm, which in our strange laws could mean that the MP5 prohibited aspects and the UZI aspects could be a double negative and cancel themselves out making it legal.

Makes sense? No? Good its Canadian Gun Law material then lol.

What about more? BTW people, talk about what they look like is not helpful. I've held one and they are not based on either.

We could possible get another one or two... would have to source them and last time I checked most of the distributors had stopped carrying them. LUSA USA did not respond to our contact attempts.

The LUSA USA gun was an adaptation of the original INDEP (Portugal) design who originally manufactured guns under a license agreement with HK back in the 1980's. the INDEP design used a trigger group similar to the MP-5 and a barrel design similar to the UZI.

After LUSA USA bought up the tooling and rights (in 2004) they made some additional changes and also created a semi-auto version that was approved by ATF.

One of the issues we found with the one we had was that the magazine looks similar to an UZI mag but is not the same. The magwell will NOT accept AR style 9mm magazines which means the gun must use LUSA USA magazines and they must be pinned/welded to 5 rounds.

How much would a lusa gun cost Mark?

No idea... it would depend on our US $ cost plus export costs, etc... and we'd need to make a profit on top, not just recover our costs.

Last time I checked there didn't seem to be a wholesale source anymore (the distributors were out of units)... so that means sourcing them at full retail from someone who has a BNIB unit.

Gunbroker shows rifles at @ $800 to $1,000 and the pistol versions at @ $950 to $1,000. Not sure if the "pistol" version is exportable.

Just a guess but figure @ 40% to 50% on top for export costs, permit fee, etc. and that's based on doing at least 2 of these guns at same time.

time for a canadian company to buy some LUSA tooling that I presume has just been sitting around...

I imagine if these were built in Canada, they could see renewed demand.

There is definitely a business opportunity there. I could see it making $1 million, provided the company started with $2 million.

These go for $799 down south. With an FRT already issued, are there any issues for importing these? I certainly don't think $3000 is reasonable for an $800 "rifle".

I'd be all over this.

I have always wanted an MP5 since I shot a full auto one in Vegas. This is the closest I will ever get to having one in this country. If these come here, I've got cash ready to rock! I do agree that 3000 is way to high for a used 1000 dollar gun. I would consider 1500 for a new one with our dollar the way it is right now. That should leave enough room for everyone to make some cash.

If I could get a sample, I would do it; I have a firearms manufacturing license

I dought We can get them here anymore, I've tried repeadelly to communicate with the makers, either there not in business anymore or there ignoring Canada....
I was able to locate some extra mags, so was the very lucky buyer of my Lusa...

ya but what would you have to charge in order to make it profitable

Without a sample I can not speculate accurately. What I can say, is this idea appeals to me because there is already a FRT. I have been fighting for over a year to get a FRT for my rifle and it has broken me financially.
With that said, I can not take on more personal debt so I would need to charge more as this is a niche item OR I can take on investors and therefore eliminate the need to quickly recoup my losses (read: lower price).
