LW Mountain Rifle

Have you tried these barrels? I didn't know that anyone in Canada was making a cut-rifled barrel.

Have NOT tried one of JC s barrels yet ! BUT hes being a F and BR shooter for years and is a trained machinist - hes well respected in the shooting industry and i happen to think highly of him so i don't think i am taking a chance 1 i think i am buying a WINNER from him - got a 338 barrel ( 338 Win Mag build ) coming from him too ! :d RJ

Keep in mind too that the 6.5x47 is a better choice than Hornady's offering.;)

Now that is JUST your OPINION - now in a BENCH REST gun that may be True - but for a HUNTing gun the 6.5 Creedmoor is the better choice as you can buy and shoot factory ammo for /in it ! Also i already have a Ruger Predator chambered in it so i already have dies and lots of brass so it will be the CHOICE Hunting Cartridge of the short 6.5's ! jmo RJ

You shoot factory ammo? Ummmm...I don't think we can be friends any more! :)

Had one of those and gave it away.... didn't like it..

My Leupold 3-9x33 was relegated to rim fire duty after I purchased my Z3. What did you not like about it? I find the Z3 has much better optics, better eye box, better eye relief and it has survived very well on a lightweight .300 WM that has been fed a steady diet of 220gr Partitions.

If you are comparing to the UL, I will concede the improved glass, but not the view through the tube. I have had a half dozen or more UL'S and eventually replaced them all with VX-3 scopes in either 1.75-6X32 or 2.5-8X36... they are a much better overall optic... I would take the 2.5-8X over the Z3 personally, but the Z3 over the UL.

I agree with you in part except I prefer the UL over the Z3, price being one factor and in view of the fact that several animals harvested with the UL sitting on top of the rifle tells me that it works for me.... at least well enough.
Sure, there are better scopes out there but I'm ok with the UL...

Its a M600 action with a M7 trigger ( redone to crisp 2 lbs) and a M7 hindged floor plate unit in a Brown Kevlar pounder stock - It has a RKS 10 twist SS 22 " barrel chamberd in 284 WIN . The action is slabbed both sides - the bolt is spiral fluted and has a LW pin and shroud . barrel and action are Gun Koted . Scope is a 3.5 - 10 x 40 Leo VX3 with B&C reticle housed in Talley LW hand lapped rings . I kept the oringinal DOG leg bolt beause its KOOL ! LOL Total weight is 6 lbs ! I am terrible with pics - and NOT very Smart but i will try soon ! RJ

Please try to post pics...I'd love to see it. If you need a hand PM me.

I was relatively happy with the UL... until I shot it at the range, in low light, alternately with another rifle that had a VX-3 2.5-8X36 mounted... the difference was pretty pronounced.

I have done the same with the VX-3 2.5-8 & VX-3 3.5-10 compared to the Z3... and when all is considered, I would take either of the VX-3's.

No one has any love for the 6x36mm?

The website says 10 oz, but it weighs 9.6 oz in reality. Glass clarity, eyebox, eye relief and brightness are very good (on par with any VX-3). Less cost than the VX-3. I don't see much lost versatility having a fixed 6 on a mountain rifle. You aren't pushing bush and 6 is plenty for 20-500 yards. A long range mountain rig won't be wearing a sub 10 oz scope so I'm speaking in terms of a ultra light rig.
