It is to release the top of the powder box for cleaning out the powder after you are done loading.

Be aware that you will get several comments about how hard to clean the 1200 is but ignore that as those that ##### the loudest have never touched the machine. ;) Once you learn how it is done it should take less than a minute to clean up after you are done reloading. Also if you have the new 1200 DPS2 it is just as fast dispensing powder as the RCBS/PACT unit.

An electronic dispenser is great! you get measured & weighed individual charges basically for free (time-wise).

An immense improvement over a balance beam & trickler. Even in the face of a precision thrower it's an attractive proposition.

I'd never go back

I've got one of these units as well and although I haven't used any of the other automatic units this one is doing just fine for me. In the beginning I used to double check about every fifth load with the balance beam till I realized it was totally redundant.

I love having it at the range when I'm doing load development, like daniel said by the time you seat a bullet your next charge is waiting.

I absolutely have to replace my scale and I'm torn between spending the money on the RCBS Chargemaster or the 1200 DPS. Without a doubt the Charge master is better but I can't afford the extra $$ right now.

Most people are happy with their 1200 DPS so I'm considering it.

I may just buy the Chargemaster scale and get the dispenser later. That addresses my scale issue and the wallet issue as well.
