Hello fellow Nutz!

I have some questions regarding loads for the cast Lyman 525gr lead sabot/pellet style slugs. I cannot find very much data for these in my manuals.

I have MANY hull types to choose from, but for these slugs I'd like to stick with a disposeable type. I'm trying to find data for a Federal Top Gun (paper basewad) hull; 12guage, 2 3/4".

There is data out there for this hull. However, the majority of the loads involve a WAA12F114 wad; now no longer produed by Winchester. I have 1000 of these stockpiled, but I'd rather save these for other loads. In addition, using a tapered wad in a straightwalled hull is asking for powder migration. I'd rather use a Federal 12S0, 12S3, or 12S4 Wad; I have all 3 types.

For primers, I have Fed209A, Win209, Cheddite, CCI209, and CCI209M

For powder, I have Hodgdon HS6, IMR SR7625, Hodgdon Longshot, and Alliant Herco. I'd like to save the Longshot for other stuff though.

Does anyone have a load for the componants listed? I cannot find much. I'd like to keep it under 10,500psi and 1300fps. I don't need to concuss myself; I want to enjoy shooting my DA Grizzly Mag.

Thanks!

I shoot Win AA hulls, Win 209 primers, 114 wads (either real win or the CB's) with 25.0 grains of Herco. At 50 yards through my 870 with a 20" smooth barrel I can group them 5 shots in a 6" diameter circle.

Claybuster make a replacement wad for the WAA12F114 wad. CB 114-12 is the replacement

Yes; they do indeed. However, search ShotgunWorld.com and see what they have to say. The general consensus is that it is NOT a good copy at all; unlike their other cloned wads. The shotcup has trouble containing 1 1/4oz of shot (I can personally attest to this, and the crush section and other dimensions also mimic a WAA12 or WT12 (1 1/8oz) wads.

Like I mentioned before; I'd also prefer not to have the powder creep associated with using a wad designed for 1-piece tapered hulls inside a 2-piece straight-walled hull. This is especially the case with the Federal Top Gun hulls as they have a larger internal volume and diameter than most other hulls. I would prefer a tighter fitting wad that seals better to the hull wall. The powders I am looking to use are flattened spherical type (like Hodgdon Longshot), and powder creep and migration is more of an issue than with a less dense flake powder like Herco.
