Can someone tell me the best proceedure to start up a Lyman Ideal 55 powder measure as the instruction off the internet isn't really all that clear. Doesn't indicate how to use the adjustments.

Coarse and fine adjustments. One allows more powder in the hopper than the other. Do your first adjustment with the big (coarse) slide, as you get close, use the fine adjustment. What else do you mean, you're kind of vague?

I don't usually bother with the increments on the slides. I estimate where I should be by how much of the slides are in (or out) and see what it's throwing on a scale. repeat until you're at what you want, grain-wise.

Lister said it. Forget the increment scale and go by what it looks like. When I got a popular load set, I used to scratch a little mark on the outside of the big adjustment. Problem was, after about four little marks, I forgot which was which!
To get accurate measurements it is important to use the same swing every time. That is, give it the upswing to hit the top stop, then the same speed down. It is consistancy you are after.
For very small amounts of powder, just use the two screw adjusted openings, with the big one closed tight.
