I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with one of these systems? I want to get a dispensing system at some point down the road so I am researching them all and I can find very little on the Lyman Gen 5 system other than a few YouTube videos.

its a standard lyman dispenser; same firmware, but half the size (about freaking time too. the 3's and 4's half the unit is storage for the power adapters)

I was looking at buying one to replace my gen 3 as the gen 6 takes up way less room.

EDIT... woops I mean the gen6... gen 5 is just another bench hog.

I'm ok with a large footprint, I have plenty of room on my bench... So long as it works well.

Have you considerd this ? h ttp://www.longrangehunting.com/articles/rcbs-chargemaster-1500-review-1.php

I looked at that one also. It seems to be the benchmark that others are compared to, but it is also almost $100 more for what seems to be the same system. If the Lyman is as accurate and reliable it doesn't seem sensible to spend the additional money just to have the RCBS name...

I also looked at the Hornady offering, but it doesn't store your loads which is something that I would like to have.

I think most have voted with their wallet.. They can be had in the U.S. for around $289 +1 at Natchess I believe.

I bought mine at Brownells on their Black friday sale and paid around $340.. shipped

Others may confirm what deals they got but mine was around $100.00 less than what was available at the time in Canada and with great RCBS support.

I bought the Gen6. Compared it to the 5 and the only thing the 5 had over the 6 was a trickle button and the ability to store a number of loads. No interest in storing loads and the trickle feature sure wasn't enough to justify the difference in cost.

Overall it's been fantastic. I've noticed the best way for it to drop the right charge is to set it for .1 grain higher than what you are looking for. As an example, if you wanted 25.0 grains, set it for 25.1. The type of powder you are running through it seems to affect its accuracy more than anything.

Every powder I've run through it it has handled well. The only expection would be a fine ball powder like H335, it tends to "bounce" alot and you wind up getting a bit of powder around the base of the scale. All other powder I've put through it is fine, all winds up in the pan.

Great scale, certainly would recommend.

It, along with the Lyman case prep center I bought, has improved the speed and accuracy of my reloads for sure.

Couple other things I thought of:

I leave the restricter plug in all the time. Easier to remove it with powder in the tube than trying to screw it in during use.

Clean up on this scale is a snap. Well thought out. No spilled powder whatsoever.
