Well, I could have posted this one on the Reloading forum but, since it delves more with the shooting of these instead of the actual casting and loading, here we go:
Has anyone around here tried these giant airgun-pellet-shaped slugs in his shotgun?

They can be cast as hard as needed since they make use of an ordinary plastic shot wad and regular star crimp.
Just curious (before I buy the mold).
PP. :)

A friend of mine has a 12 gauge mould you describe. He made a bunch out of pure lead. I don't think you want them hard. He hasn't had the chance to load them up yet, and I'm not sure neither of us has the stones to touch one off yet. :kickInTheNuts: He gave me one of the rejects, so I keep it for show and tell.

But he did use pure lead to make them. If they are made of anything harder, they probably wouldn't work well in anything but cylinder choke bore.

you mean like in my picture

i have cast and shot hundreds of them (shot 25 in one day no problem)
i just use reg bullet lead or softer lead if i can find it

i have put clay birds out at 100 yards and hit them with my 870 ic barrel

if you have a improved cylinder barrel you should have no problem

to check if they will work in your barrel with out blowing any thing up
take your shot gun apart, put of the slugs in a a wad and push it down the barrel with a cleaning rod ( smooth bore) if it goes by your choke with only a little push, you are good to go

lyman shot gun reloading book have all the information you will need
do not use any components that you do not have data for as pressure can build up fast and go boom in stead of bang

if using a fold crimp use a different colour hull and mark reloaded rounds with a marker and store in a marked container
have fun:D

I bought some of these 20 gauge Lyman slugs, off some guy in New Jersey IIRC.

These slugs are so hard they "klink" when they strike each other! (antimony)

Out of my M87 Ithaca fully rifled barrel, they were almost as accurate as Winchester Supreme Sabot slugs @50-70 yards.
