So I finally got a tumbler, and read all the posts mentioning to put dryer sheets in the bowl to reduce the dust. So I tried that, but I noticed it really slowed down the flow of the media. Not wanting walnut dust coming out of the tumbler I figured a solid cover was in order, yet I do not ever recall anyone mentioning they have done this.

So I sent a quick email yesterday to Lyman asking why they do not include a solid cover with their tumbler, and this morning there response was: "We will send one out to you."

Pretty good service in my opinion. :)

Mine's kind of loud, so I put a carboard box over it. Never had any dust issues though.
"...Pretty good service..." Yep. The rest of the manufacturing world could learn a lot about customer service from the reloading industry. The firearms industry in general.

Why do the sheets have to be used? The only benefit I see is saving the cost of throwing a new one into your tumbler. I have tumbled with new fabric softener sheets and they work fine for me.

I've tried used sheet after reading it here and I find they grab more dust than new ones. The used ones are not as stiff, more porous and don't have the "stickiness" of new sheets. They're also better for the environement since you're reusing them.:D

If new ones work for you, go at it.

My Lyman tumblers (yes, I need two) came with solid covers. This some kind of economy thing? - dan

Mine is model 1200 pro, only has the cover that can double as a separator, but the new solid one is supposed to be on its way free or charge.

I think you just like your brass to smell April fresh lol

X2! It's really nice to smell bounce rather than dirty media smell. I find my brass actually gets shinier too with the sheets in the tumbler. I wonder who it was that first came up with this idea--- ingenious.

mine has the slotted cover, came with a smaller bowl with a solid cover as well.
What dust?
Just keep your wife out of the reloading room, and use the vacuum when she's not around. :D
No sense letting her know you can use it.:p

Gotta agree with Lymans service. I was finishing my basement and lost the screw on top to the tumbler I have (Lyman 1200). When I e-mailed and asked where I could purchase one as I lost it, they said not to worry they would send one out. Came in the mail just the other day! I wish everything worked that well! Great job Lyman.

So here it is, obviously its more solid with out the slots in it, and I found a small basin at the dollar store that I drilled holes into, that fits perfect into a small bucket I had, which makes separating brass less messy since its deeper than the original lid from the tumbler.
