Driving to work the other day, I saw an animal lying on the shoulder. I immediately realized it was a lynx, so I stopped and checked it out. The cat had been killed during the night, and was basically in perfect condition.
Gorgeous cat.

I phoned a friend, who's in F&W to get permission to take it off the highway, and I'm getting the paperwork done at F&W to keep it.

I'm going to get it full-body mounted of course.

Anybody ever get a lynx mounted? If so, what does that cost approx?

The cost can be upwards of $1000.00
Depends on the person doing the work , the more popular the guy/gal doing the work, the more money they will charge and do get for their work.
Why not have it skinned and tanned?
Way cheaper and if you really like it, then go out and hunt one.
The stories and memories of life hunt would mean more than a road kill mount.
Hey, it just my .02 opine this morning.
Oh, btw, lucky sob to find suck a nice specimen as road kill too...so show us some pictures when you get a moment too.

Nice!

Pretty much the only way to get one without a trapping license, IIRC.

It costs what it costs. I think I paid $400 for an owl that I had done a few years ago. I still have the owl and didn't starve on account of spending the money, so it was a good deal. Find a Taxidermist you like, smile, nod, and pay the man.

Cheers

A friend from lethbridge found an eagle dont recall bald or golden that had struck a powerline. Called wildlife folks they cheked it out said it wasnt killed illegally and said he could keep it. If memory servs he told me 800.00 a few months back

There is a fellow up here in Slave Lake that has won awards for his work. Dave Booth Taxidermy. Pretty cool stuff. Phone around. Get pics e-mailed of recent work. Dave's a good egg too.

I talked to a taxidermist that said at this time of year, lynx are sometimes a little 'ratty'. I dunno, the fur looks pretty good to me.

Waiting to get it from F&W still. Next week, I should have it.

What's the weather like there? If it's warming up, the winter coat could be startening to loosten up from the hide.

I have a full mounted one. No base. Looks like a big cat curled up on the floor. You should see the double takes new visitors give when they walk into the room and see it sitting off in the corner. It cost me a 60 of rum -- which I got to share. My taxidermist is good friend.
