I recently purchased a M-1 carbine made by GM Inland Division serial # 528###X barrel date stamped 6-44. On the rear of the receiver just below the serial numder are the numbers 677 and below that are the letters L.P.VI. On the trigger guard WB-LP-1554 is stamped and also on the receiver where it says US CARBINE CAL 30M1 the number 1554 is also stamped.
Does any one know what these letters/numbers mean.

Surf over to jouster.com(add the w's) and ask on the carbine forum. Some of the guys there can almost tell you what was served for lunch in the cafeteria on the day it was made.

Sounds like West German re-issue markings to me. Is there a tangent sight on the front receiver ring, or an aperture sight at the back of the receiver?

The carbine has a standard type one or L type flip over rear sight. It is an earlier model that can not use a bayonet. I will post some pics next week.
Thanks
