I knew I had this from 30+ years ago in my "miscellaneous"collection but couldn't find it until today. These are super rare today so I thought I'd share a couple pics in case someone hasn't seen them. It's a U.S. Navy 7.62 x 51 conversion chamber adapter and mag adapter as well for a 30-06 M-1 Garand. Anyone else have a set of these?

I used to have a number of the chamber inserts. They were a failed experiment as they would frequently be extracted along with the fired case. After reading about them I never actually bothered to try the ones I had as it seemed to be a recipe for trouble. I just $hit canned them at some point.

The plastic mag blocks were used by the US Navy in their 7.62 Garands which were fitted with purpose made/chambered 7.62 NATO barrels. The Italians used an steel block for the same purpose in their 7.62 NATO Garands. These work well in my Italian Tipo2 7.62 rifles. I'd like to try one of the plastic ones as well.

I read that there were a few cases of them being extracted with the fired cases too. I thought about using that insert on a bolt action 30-06 rifle once but couldn't find the darned thing when I needed it. I expect it would be fine in a bolt gun.

I've got one, bought it as a curiosity, but never used it. Word from numerous reliable sources say not to use them, only a matter of time before they get ejected with an empty case.

Actually you can fire a .308/7.62 cartridge in any 30-06 rifle and our U.S. Army conducted tests doing this. End result with and without chamber insert was loss of velocity and accuracy.

The photos below happened at Camp Perry and I saw the same thing happen to someone I worked with. He mistakenly asked for 30 caliber ammo at a discount store and was given Winchester .308 ammunition that he fired in his Remington 700 30-06.
