what brakes are you guys running?

I am thinking 18.5 barrel and a brake for my new to me poly?

I have a standard length barrel with a Dlask brake on the end. Very loud, but does what it's supposed to; redirects force to reduce muzzle climb and recoil.

SEI imports at least to dealers. I got my SEI break from ATRS in Calgary. I have it on a full length bbl. It is a very loud break, as all are. I have been told by several people that it is an extremely effective break, possibly the most effective m14 break... I find the recoil is reduced but nothing to write home about. Of course this is the only break I have tried on an M14 or any .308 for that matter so take my lack of excitement with a grain of salt.

I ran the SEI brake on my 18.5 inch barreled guns for about a year and a half....then I went hunting with one of my M1As and made the mistake of discharging it towards a mule deer down in the bottom of quite a tight draw. As I was wearing no hearing protection, it took some time for the ringing to go away! I've since switched them all out for Smith Enterprise Vortex flash hiders. If anyone is looking for an SEI brake, send me a PM as I have lots of them and would not mind selling off 3 or 4.

What's nice about them is they use the castle nut and barrel splines to attach to the barrel....this means there is no modification required to use with a factory norinco barrel. They also have a dovetail for a standard M1A type sight....no fancy gas lock required. They also appreciably reduce muzzle climb and felt recoil.

What's bad about them? Only the noise....

Cheers,

Brobee

Yes but-

It will not be effective-not enough gas evacuation.

And you have to chop and thread yer barrel -

Might as well get a PWS- end up with same moolah loss-

We are launching a brake specifically designed for shorty M14 builds in about a week.

The brake is made of stainless and is designed to force gases upwards as well as cause a braking effect. Threading is 1/2-28 so it will work on your Norc barrel.

Here is a pic:

Testing has proven the design to work extremely well, speed of double taps and muzzle control are greatly increased.

I make my own copy of the smith navy brake for my shorty at 1/2 28 tpi, and just finished one for my AR10 build at 11/16 24 tpi. Not a good picture but the brake works good, although as was said they are loud.
