M-14 and Frontier Metal bullets Marstar

Sources for bullets seem to be drying up. I can't find any Hornady FMJBT's and was looking at Marstar's website. I quite like the Frontier pistol bullets but have never considered their 308 caliber 150 and 168 gr bullets.

Has anyone used their bullets in their M-14/M1A? Does the flat nose affect reliability in a semi-auto?

I wanted to ask this question in the Main Battle Rifle Forum rather than reloading because it is specific to the M-14.
 
My guess is that they will fit somewhere between don't work and very dangerous, but I have not tried them. I have tried xtremebullets 150 grainers though. There are a flat tip, but not nearly as much so as the frontier bullet.

I seated 5 to see what would happen, and on cycling them, the flat portion would be shaved off, and either the round would make it into the chamber with the lead flake going God knows where, or the round would get hung up with the base of the shell against the bolt. I am pretty sure that if I had primed/powdered these, they would have kaboomed.

If you are going to use the marstar bullet, test them without primer/powder first. Then ensure they are chambering without primer strike.
 
I was leary about ordering them and wanted to double check. I thought it was too good to be true they had these in stock. Thanks for the replies. I will stick with "pointy" bullets.;)
 
If you don't mind hand cycling you M14 and acceptable accuracy (No MOA), I use the 110 gr. RN of Frontier. They sell them in a box of a 1000 and around 70$. I recently have been using 15 grns of Trailboss with great results.
 
Frontier bullets, even their rifle bullets, are plated. Plated bullets are loaded with cast bullet data. Don't think I'd want an FP for an M305 though. They be ok out of a .30-30.
 
I use the Fronteir flat nose bullets. Surprisingly accurate and not one feed problem on my M-14. Because of their shape, there is more bearing surface on the rifling putting a very postive spin o the bullet as it leaves the barrel.

Holes in target at 100m are nice and round indicating bullet is not tumbling. Grouping is very good.

I use 46gr of IMR-4350
 
I placed an order with Higginson last week. One of the items that was out of stock was 150 gr Hornady bulk FMJ's. Always good service from this company.
 
Good'ol Hornady bulk 150 FMJBT. I keep calling Higginsons and always sold out or on back order. I'm trying other inexpensive optiond but for the price and the performance I've been getting with Hornady, it's hard to beat.
