Is there any other way to get a receiver to build a M-14 instead of buying a Norinco or SA? I seen company's in the states such as Fulton Armory or LRB build them but I dont know if you can get them up here.

You can go with LRB and 762mmfirearms receivers. Fulton won't deal with canadians. Then you'll need to look at having it imported... questar and a couple others will do this for a fee.

and i hear that soon there is the possibility of being able to source smith enterprise receivers in canada...... can't wait for that day ;)

If SEI receivers ever come here, better start padding your wallet. They would be a great choice for a new build, but are not better enough to justify parting out a nice USGI norc build to re_use the parts on an SEI receiver.

I've built several of the few LRB receivers for happy clients, that have imported them north through liscenced importers (questar, dave's sporting goods ect) , other than some fitting.... which should be expected when fitting new parts, they are of outstanding quality and a fine choice for you to use to build a truly exceptional rifle

Just like this Crazy Horse inspired little jem that the m14doc built up for me :D

An LRB Receiver is $900.00 to $1100.00 U.S.............then factor in import/export fees and taxes..............realistically your are looking at $1500.00 -ish just for a LRB receiver to hit your door step.........

Expect a Smith receiver to be up there in price as well............

Forget Fulton Armory............they will only ship to a U.S. address and will NOT ship anything outside of the U.S.

The best route is to buy a Norinco and use it as the base for build.

Norinco receivers are forged..................Springfield Armory receivers are cast..............Norinco receivers are just as dimensionally correct as TRW USGI receivers.............the same can not be said for Springfield receivers...........

I have owned real USGI M14s (Springfield Armory, TRW), Custom Match M1As, and built my own rifles from Norinco Receivers...............for the price of a standard M1A, you can build a nice match m14 from a Norinco with all the top shelf parts for less money and end up with a custom build that will shoot rings around the M1A............

Now if you have the cash, I have seen the LRB receiver first hand and it's quality is top notch...............if I was going to build another M14 type rifle, AND had the cash, I would build on a LRB receiver............

But bang for your buck-wise, Norinco is the way to go..............:D

I was kinda leaning towards the LRB. I was shooting a friends Norinco on the weekend and it was great but I dont think I could bring myself to buy one. If I bought the LRB M25 action plus whatever barrel is recommended and trigger group, USGI Walnut stock and all the other parts needed what kinda bill would I be running?

Aproximately $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!!!

Lets See... Say $1500 for m25 and import
$350 for GI bolt
$150 sights
$150 GI or RWB op rod
$400 for Kreiger or GI barrel
$200 for GI gas system
$350 GI trigger
$250 for a nice wood stock
$100 for springs, clip guides. bolt stops etc.
$200 for muzzle brake/vortex/ front sight etc
(I miss anything?)

$350ish for gunsmithing costs (if you don't do it yourself)

That's sitting @ $3950. You could go down (or up) $500 if you get some deals (or not) but the above are probably average prices for what I've seen things go for on the EE lately. The other problem is actually finding the parts.

I built my CrazyHorse EBR/DMR clone on a Norinco receiver...............at retail that was around a $5000.00 build..............

-Norinco Forged Receiver
-S.E. CrazyHorse barrel
-S.E. Gas Lock Sight W/ Tritium Front blade
-S.E. DC Vortex Flash suppressor
-TRW Bolt (Headspaced at 1.628")
-TRW Trigger group
-TRW Op Rod
-SAGE EBR Chassis
-Rooster33 Oversized bolt release
-Rooster33 Op Rod spring Guide
-USGI Op Rod Spring
-Unitized USGI Gas System
-USGI Gas Piston
-Standard USGI Rear Sight
-Misc pins,etc....

As for Gunsmithing, I did the assembly, barrelling, chamber cutting ( with the help of GGFB ;)), and bolt lapping myself..................

So be prepared to empty out that wallet!!!!!!:D

you sir, should maybe look into purchasing a built rifle from LRB that comes with the goodies already in it..... no need to chase EE deals on used usgi parts..... no worries about what can and can't be imported.... and no gunsmithing fees :D
though the one LRB built rifle i worked on a couple years ago needed to spend time on my bench to get things a little more bang on..... but way less hassle than sourcing parts and having the build done.

If you buy the whole gun from LRB you can get an M25 now, otherwise your on the waiting list for m25 receivers, they're saying 9 month or longer. I just wonder if you would have to specify no USGI parts on your LRB rifle to get it out of the USA. M14sa recievers are currently available.

the controls apply to parts, not complete firearms. at least this is my understanding. I know of numerous M14/M1a (LRB, Springfield) type rifles imported from the states with usgi parts on board and no special permissions due to the usgi parts in the rifles.

How long would it take to get a complete rifle up here? is it a hassle to do?

call daves sports shop(site sponsor top right hand side of page)...... they offered the best import rate when i inquired and those i know who have dealt with importing thru them have been very pleased with the process and time line.
