I have a 2011 Norinco. Have any of our gurus had a chance to examine Chinese M-14s of this vintage.

Mine looks very good and I wonder what others think of the 2011 imports.

I've got a couple of brand new 2011-marked shorties and here's a list of problems I've noticed so far:

- both have slightly misaligned op-rods
- the op-rod guide on one is a little loose
- the hammer on the other may be soft, it has an indent in it where it strikes the pin (I think) but I haven't ruled it out as a manufacturing defect yet.

As near as I can tell the barrels are properly indexed, the rear sights work properly and the gas assembly seems tight (no leaks that I've noticed).

Not 100% what year mine is marked for but it was just purchased a month or so ago.

Only 2 gripes really:
1) Barrel indexing is off on mine, not by a lot but enough to notice and to have to move my front sight wayyy over to zero.
2) My rear sight is absolute CRAP. Lots of loose play, even for a Norc.

I've only shot it once box stock, but it ran flawlessly in -10 weather...
I've since added a SADLAK NM op-rod spring guide, USGI spring, USGI stock, USGI gas assy and shimmed...haven't shot it yet since upgrades but madly itching to! I can already tell a difference in the action. MUCH smoother. Next up is USGI sights OR NM...Haven't decided yet but leaning towards USGI :)

The one I just bought is labelled as an M305 and the year of production is marked 2011.
I'm a M14 novice but I did take some measurements:
Front sight cant = 2 degrees (to the left)
Front sight distance from center of base = 2mm (to the right and staked in place)
Windage knob movement = 78 ft-lb of torque required
Safety engagement force = 39 pounds
Lubricant ooze rate = 3.4ml per day
Trigger pull = 5.5# and smooth

Still, for $400... :)

I had one of the new shorties, the oprod had a half inch or more of up and down movement and when pushed down the bolt roller was captured by maybe one or two thousands of an inch. The left side reciever leg had been welded and the reciever heel looked like it had been ground by hand. The right side reciever ledge was about half the thickness my poly and two norincos. I asked if they could send me one that was in better specs, they said those issues are normal and thats what you can expect to get. So I politely declined and got my money back. Other seem to have better luck than I have. So I will maybe chop the barrel on one I have or a maybe purchase a kreiger short barrel and go that route.

Both 2011 shorties I have worked on had spot welded flash hiders, but not to worry, it is pretty easy to knock them loose. The flash hiders came free intact, just a few serious whacks with a big hammer and a brass drift.
