I just recieved my new M-14S and have a couple of questions.First the safety will not move more than an1/8 of an inch.I figure that is not normal.
Second after trying for 3 hours to remove the trigger housing the damn thing will not budge.I followed the instructions in the manual but no go!
Am I doing something wrong or what?

#### the action before you attempt to apply the safety.

Trigger housing might be affected by the above...should slide out reasonably easily...2009 production?

Did you #### it first?

Did you #### it first? Once cocked, find a screwdriver to fit in the hole at the back of the trigger guard to give leverage to open it.

open the door on the stock and get out your combo tool- the part that the cleaning rod screws into goes into hole in the trigger guard, and that will give you leverage to open the guard the whole way- then , once the guard is about 90 degrees, you should be able to pull the trigger assembly STRAIGHT OUT - you may have to wiggle it a bit-and you should pull it out TOWARDS YOU i.e. you should be looking at the BOTTOM of the rifle

Thanks t-star that did the job.I wondered about using that hole for leverage but figured with my luck I would likely bust something!

The safety still will not move but I will give it a good cleaning and see if that will maybe free it up.

My safety is/was really tight as well but it will get better with use... Probably won't notice anything by just cleaning the light machine oil off of it but it's worth a try...

Work it back and forth till it clicks with a rubber screwdriver handle or piece of wood a few dozen times.

Step 1: Get this book.
Step 2: Throw out norc manual.
Congrats on your new toy, you're gonna love it.

There is a Norc Manual??

YUP VERY BASIC... the safety is real stiff. It will loosen after a dozen uses. The 2009 models any heads up info about them...went through the head space section in Main Battle riflesThreads.

another trick is to take out your trigger mechanism and work it OUT OF THE GUN- this does 2 things- checks your stock fit and tells you if your safety is working properly- pull the hammer back, put on the safety, take off the safety, cushion the hammer, and pull the trigger- see if that helps- do for a number of cycles- if it's still stiff, put a little lube in there to see if it still does it- chances are it just needs lube and tlc- if there's something wrong with the stock fit( and you wouldn't be the first one) look for a high spot in the stock or where it doesn't quite fit; then file that a little at a time until it does- trial and repeat- a lot of these are either made tight or swell on the trip over-DO NOT TAKE A FILE OR DREMEL to the trigger mechanism to "improve " the fit- chances are you'll get the angles wrong and she'll go full auto on you - that's how critical those surfaces are- now if you're fully experienced like m14doctor or hungry or mystic, then yes;( and they're the ONLY ones i would trust with my trigger) but for us mere mortals ,it's FORBIDDEN GROUND - and not every smith can work on those either

There is a Norc Manual??

forget the norc manual and print up a copy of fm23-8- it's on line- just disregard the f/a bits- from what i understand , the "norc manual" is just a copy of this anyway- that should be somewhere in the stickies, or don't you guys read those?

remember, the m14 is a battle rifle and is designed cleaned and lubed with everything thats in that buttstock kit- some of the chinese ones don't have the ratchet brush; so if you're going to do a task that requies tools, stop and ask yourself; is there a way to do this with just the tool kit? ; if the answer is no. you've got the wrong approach or idea-you need to ask what's the proper way to do this or what am i doing wrong- remember this is 1950's technology, nothing fancy, and most of it is on the net, either covered in the m14 articles themselves or in the m1 garand articles
