M-14 Tactical Scout Mount problem

Has anyone used one of these mounts on a Norinco M305? It appears that the mount is too large in diameter unless mounted right close to the chamber where the barrel gets fatter.

I think it should be mounted quite a bit forward of that so it's out of the way of the Op Rod.

The Marstar M-14 Tactical Scout Mount from Marstar (part # M14-104).. the one that attaches to the barrel and you cut a hole in the top of the hand guard.
