A note concerning cheek rests
It has come to our attention that two of our forum sponsors have come under attack for allegedly copying the cheek rest design of Karsten's Custom Camo. The accusation from none other than Karsten himself on at least two "Other" forums.
We don't have specific dates, but in discussion with the oldest staff members here who have been around through all of the three cheek rest debuts, we have all agreed on the following history/time line as we know it here on TFL concerning the type cheek rest that is in controversy.
The first to introduce a cheek rest of this type was none other than Rooster33 who at the time was a forum sponsor here.
Second, along came Karsten with a replication of the same type design. There was some controversy surrounding Karsten's design, however not to the magnitude that the current design is receiving.
Third came the current controversial replication of Rooster33's design. (of which Karsten now claims as his) This design replication is by Dessert Warrior Products. This newest controversy has Karsten claiming that our own LAW483 has sold Karsten's idea to DWP with no proof to offer only his opinions. Law483 on the other hand has come up with his own proof in his defense of a time line of which DWP came out with the cheek rest sometime around January of this year and his own original e-mail to DWP during the month of March.
The one thing that we have to take into consideration in all this is the source of the controversy. Karsten.
Karsten seems to thrive on controversy as is evident if one just looks around on the different gun boards. Does he make a good product? Sure. Our banning him here from our forum in no way reflects on his skills as an artist or manufacturer of cheek rests. It had to do with his seemingly inability to avoid controversy. Karsten was banned from this board, by request I might add, after his posting privileges were suspended due to his reluctance to adhere to our forum ROEs.
As for LAW483 and Desert Warrior Products, we have no reservations in recommending either one of them to do business with. Their reputations are solid as far as we are concerned. If they weren't, they would be dropped as sponsors in a heartbeat.
We here on the staff are confident that whomever of the current cheek rest manufacturers, suppliers, that you may do business with, you won't be disappointed.
Let's please put the current controversy to rest.
