M-16/AR-15 parts sets

What's the difference in function of these hammers on a F/A rifle? Would an m16a1 behave like a m16a2 simply with the hammers beig switched and leaving everything else the same? (3 shot burst vs full)

No, an m16a2 burst mechanism has 2 disconnect sears.

I believe the hammer is actually the same.

Google "m16a2 burst mechanism" as the Internet is full of pictures.

Being an AR15 noob, would any of the variations in parts being discussed here preclude them from actually being used as replacement parts on an civilian AR15?

To my understanding: just the installation of the full auto sear which would need very deliberate altering of a receiver, thus making it a prohibited device by altering it in such a way. I guess another way to say it is that you couldn't install that part in a regular ar15 which is only restricted so the parts are not prohib, it's the altered receiver if one did that. Not by any means an easy conversion for the amature.

All other parts will work in your ar15.

actually,,there are receivers that already have the rear pocket milled out that could accomodate the auto sear,,but the hole to pin it isn't there,,,but even if your receiver is able to receive the full auto parts,,doesn't make it illegal,,,BUT don't get caught with those parts installed,,you might be going for an extended vacation to the big house,,,LOL

^^^ Jeez (post 173, etc) I'm not an expert in this stuff but already I can tell this thread is going in an unsmart direction. Tread carefully with these casual comments here guys. This is becoming very fixated on only ONE aspect of these parts kits, and the preoccupation with the FA aspect of them. Use a bit of discretion. There's some people (ahem) still waiting for their first parts kits on the next batch of orders, and there's already a fine line being tread here w.r.t. 'taboo' activity. You may cause undue attention to John's wares, which none of us need, and jeopardize delivery of an otherwise good parts kit. Give it a break or take it to black rifles forum, so John doesn't get any grief from it. Just a friendly suggestion.

^ This please guys. Still waiting to create an order. Milspec parts kits are built rock solid. No illegal activities are condoned or encouraged. Very important that laws are followed so that we can have continued access to cool parts like these.

Sound advise guys but let's be clear, I have not seen any body encouraging or counselling illegal activity. It's a healthy discussion to know where the line is, so that it not crossed. That's responsible firearm ownership. I don't think we need to hide questions which result in straight forward answers for those who are unclear versus trying to ignore the obvious elephant I'm the room. You are right in the sense that many questions revolve around the taboo nature but that really has to be expected due to the nature of the kit.

In summary: This kit contains quality mil spec parts and has the second kind of cool factor by virtue of being a complete parts kit. That's why I am interested in purchasing and not for any other reason.

there are are quite a few lowers that came with the pocket already the right size for F/A parts,,,doesn't make them prohibited or illegal,,,BUT instaling F/A parts make you a CRIMINAL regardless of how you do it,,,and will send you to jail quickly,,so a person would have to be a real idiot to do it,,and with the price of ammo these days,,why would anybody want to do this,,,these parts are great for AR builds and excellent quality which is why people buy them,,,everybody on here seems to be of sound mind and body so i dont any buyers of these kits has anything illegal in mind,,,

Yes, I was talking about all other parts, not the auto sear, as being usable in a civilian AR15, but the posts talking about different hammers got me wondering if this would be a complete spare lower parts package for a civilian AR15, and the answer appears to be YES (and quality parts at that). Seems like a decent deal.
