I must admit that I am a newcomer to this rifle, although I have followed the main M-14 forum posts on CGN for some time now in anticipation. I just received my new 305 today (yes, from them) and I am very excited and keen to get started with it. :)

I will reload all my .308 Win. for this gun. Interestingly enough, the rifle has "M305 Semi-Auto .308 Win" stamped on the receiver. Why is this interesting? Well, I was so concerned with the whole 7.62 Nato vs. .308 Win. debate with these guns that I was really not sure I would be willing simply load a .308 Win into this gun and fire it when it arrived. Do I have enough confidence in Norinco to do this? Hmmm.

So, I have the rifle stripped, cleaned, and ready to fire. Or do I? The oil applied at the factory for shipping was not that big an issue to remove (unlike my SKS) and I have all the shipping 'substance' removed, but the chamber may be able to fit anything from .243/7mm-08 to who knows what. Hmmm.

Will test fire this weekend and see how it goes.

What's the word on this latest batch of Norinco M305 imports? I know there are a lot of other new owners of this latest batch of ChiCom gear out there. Will there be a rush on USGI bolts and much waling and gnashing of teeth over headspace? Eh?

So that ship finally came in:eek:. Good news for you , enjoy your Rifle.

Mine is stamped .308 but I believe they are chambered to 762NATO spec nonetheless.

As for ammo, I've personally limited my reloading to 150 grain bullets and have kept to the starting loads so far.

I probably won't work things up any hotter, both on account of caution about subjecting my M305 to .308 pressures and limited time to shoot and reload.

There will not be a rush on USGI bolts because they are just about "unobtainium" LOL

For the money USGI bolts are going for these days, a match barrel reamed to headspace properly on your Norinco bolt is going to give you a lot more improvement anyway...
 
Yes the ship came in, I had forgot about ordering that rifle till I got a call. I guess a new stock from mystic will be in order eventually but mine will more likley stay the way it is for a while untill I'm done my 9mm AR build.
 
Nice to know your rifle apparently cycles fine with this load, since this was my idea as well. Like you, if this load cycles well and shoots well enough I will likely never feel the need to increase the charge.

Yes, grease on the bolt roller, rails etc. Your comment on running the firing pin dry goes against some of the advice on here which calls for light oil. I believe I am going to run it squeaky clean and totally dry. Gas system is a no brainer, clean and dry. Thanks.

Yes. I disassembled the bolt completely and cleaned it thoroughly using carb cleaner. Ever disassemble one of these bolts? After you find all the springs and little bits that launch themselves into the deepest darkest recesses of the basement (because you thought it would be similar to your SKS bolt. Not.) you will have the devil to pay getting it reassembled. Apparently there is a special tool for these bolts? Would like to get a line on one if there is such a thing. AND, I forgot to check headspace with the Forster guages while I had the bolt apart!! Will need the tool for sure before I do that again.....

There are so many good sources of info on the M-14-S / M-305B on here that I needn't list any. All the reading one can handle at your fingertips from some very experienced and knowledgeable guys. Not much that actually defines and explains the difference between the M-14S and the M-305B other than it may well be the same gun, but manufactured by two different Norinco owned plants. Just guessing here.

I would like to hear of the improvements that was promised in the M305B over previous lots. Anyone that has one to compare to say a 2009 receiver with the bayo lug, or the apparent last shipment prior to these Marstar M305B's please post with pics if possible. I'd like too see if I should have waited for the B.:cheers:
 
Regarding the bolt assembly/disassembly tool. I use a 30-06 casing and a vise. I place the bolt in the vise (between two soft pieces of wood) and wrap the bolt face with a rag.

The 30-06 casing head is dremelled out to allow the casing to be placed on the bolt and be free of the extractor. I then remove the extractor part by holding the casing firmly to the bolt and holding a punch just wide enough to be used with a very small hammer (no 16 oz. here). The extractor pops out and the spring extractor spring is retained by the casing. The little spring does not go "boing" anyways and just falls into the rag. Still shrouded by the rag, I take the pressure off the casing and the spring releases tension and falls into the rag too.

Re-assembly is a piece of cake too, providing you 30-06 casing does not make contact with the extractor. Everything just goes together like a glove when properly lined up.

Just what I friggin' needed. I will contact Gothmog and see if I can order one of these. Not sure where the LMZ is but I am in the HHOCO (Haliburton Highlands of Central Ontario :)). Thanks for the offer, but once I have one of these Made in Canada 'bad boys' I can only think that I will be thanking you profusely.
