All you need to do is drill 2 holes and mount the rail. It comes with a sling swivel.

Exactly what scs said and did ! I did the exact same operation. Much easier that way.

Do what works for you and your resources. Just ensure that your hardware does not interfere with your gas operation / assembly.

Cheers,
Barney

Jeffman:

You are right about the gas venting, temperature control and water drainage. But (big but) in the context of us shooting in a ONE way range, none of these factors will be affected by placing a bipod stud in the weep hole.

Remember that most of us M14 lovers on the CGNutter Board don't have a mandate for hostile operations (read: 2 way range) thankfully.

Even in NRA High Power competition (50 rounds per match) , couple of matches per day, I would not worry about that weep hole. Most CGNutters will never torture their rifles like these conditions.

Cheers and all the best this Christmas....

I did the same with these rails. Just took a bit of time levelling off the bottom of the FBG stock first. Did this on my shorty M-305, though mine is mounted overtop of the front swivel, and just behind the weeping hole.

JeffMan - Uncle Mike's is a company that makes a variety of accessories, including a line of sling swivels and studs. There are two basic types of studs for quick detachable swivels. One has a wood screw, the other a machine screw with a nut. Some bipods are set up to attach to a sling swivel stud.

Sharkson, a bit of topic here and sorry for the hijack, is that an Aimpoint clone?
If so, how is it holding up and after how many rounds?

Isn't the weep hole required to vent gases?

Jeff

Here we go again...The gas vent hole is at the bottom of the gas cylinder, just in front of the front band, i.e. outside the forestock. The small hole in the bottom of the forestock is what has been mentioned before, a weeping hole to let the water out. This is only necessary if you crawl through the swamps or play SEAL and dunk yer M14 under water. Even then, there are enough openings in the stock/receiver interface to let the water out

also known as MICHAELS OF OREGAN- they supply just about every kind of mounting system you can think of for slings-
STOCK NUMBER 115M- SINGLE MACHINE SCREW WITH NUT- ABOUT 4 BUCKS OR 12 FOR ABOUT 15-10x32 thread
personally i prefer to drill out one of the rivets on the front sling swivel and use a t-nut , but either way
