I asked North Silva what dealer in Canada carried the following pistol. I was sure I saw the gun with a threaded barrel advertised for sale in Canada. The gun I saw had the Compact slide with a longer threaded barrel installed. I suspect the barrel was 4.25" I will be dammed if I can find the dealer who had it listed. North Silva says the pistol SKU 12635 does not exist. Well it does.

By way of full disclosure I contacted S&W about a year and a half ago and asked whether or not they would consider selling in Canada the Compact frame with a 4.25" slide mounted. It would compete with the Glock 19 sold up here with the ugly pimple sticking out of the frame. I think the gun would sell well up here. Folks wishing to play in CCP Division of IDPA would have a gun perfectly suited for the Division. North Silva is free to comment. I won't be asking the mods to close the thread!

As I typed this I found the dealer and the gun I knew I saw. To be fair to North Silva my description was a bit off but still there was a better answer than a smart ass. "the gun does not exist".

I plan on getting one and have my gunsmith reduce the barrel to 107MM with appropriate paper work to the CFO if necessary. I have about 10.5MM to work with.

You said on the other thread you are interested. Here you go. Wanstalls has them in stock.

Not sure when the threaded barrel arrived with a compact frame. I do know Glock sold s ton of 19's with the pimple barrel up here. For S&W it would br easy. Just put the FS slide on their Compact frame and they have exactly the same set up as the Glock 19 without the pimple and the Glock grip issues.

What is smaller about it over a regular M&P 2.0? Slide is shorter looks to be it. What am I missing? is the grip shorter? Single stack?

I like small guns. Enlighten me please.

The grip is smaller ie "Compact" frame. In the US the Compact comes with a 4" barrel.

I thought S&W would just put their 4.25" slide on the Compact frame for Canada market. It would be the same size as the Glock 119 sold up here only without the pimple barrel look.

It is possible to make the FS M&P with a 4.25" barrel fit the requirements for IDPA CCP Division by shaving the base of the magazines. The max barrel length for the Division is 4.25". The Compact frame with a FS slide makes the Division requirements as well. I wanted the smaller frame with the larger slide. I guess I should be happy with the Compact version with the suppressor threads and sights. I may want to replace the higher sights with regular M&P sights. I think I have a set in the parts box.

I hope you have a spare 4.25" barrel in your parts box (as well). Otherwise, @$789.99+++ things are getting expensive, with no real gain in performance.

Well it isn't so much a gain in performance. It is more having a pistol to compete in CCP Division. I have shaved the base of a mag to meet the IDPA specs but I run the risk of the base failing at exactly the wrong time. It won't cost all that much to cut the barrel to 107MM or even buy a shortened barrel. Hell Wendall I have waisted $800 bucks on less important purchases and not had any fun doing it....well maybe there were a few C notes spent where fun was involved but that was a long time ago and maybe just my imagination. :>). A guy could buy both M&P pistols (from Wanstalls) and then just swap the barrels, I suppose. I, too, would like a 4.25" compact M&P9... but not that much.

I feel better knowing I'm not the only one who is irritated by the "pokey barrel/pimple barrel" ruining the lines of compact pistols.

Just buy the 4.25" top end would also do it. Not a lot of those around for the Gen2 yet. I out together a 40cal M&P Gen1 by buying a gently used top end for $100. and a complete frame for $250 off the EE. $250 in total for a virtually new 40 cal M&P Gen1.

In fact why S&W doesn't mate a compact frame to a FS 4.25" top end and call it the Canadian Edition in Canada and the IDPA Edition is the States is beyond me. The gun would outsell the vaunted G-19 on looks alone. Ah well for a mere $780 + tax I will have an itch scratched. Some itch..some scratch to turn a phrase. I'll take in my brass this week and my gun buying account and I should have enough for the gun.

ps or I could sell one of my other firearms that were designed to scratch a forgotten itch.

I don't like the pimple barrels either. I have a Beretta 71 with a 107mm barrel and a Bersa Thunder 380 with a 4.25" barrel. Both have pimples but can live with it. The only way I was satisfied with a legal barrel and small gun that looks right was with my Glock 48 and my antique Webley MP and it's 2.5" barrel.

OP sorry to get off topic.

Bob, did you find a gunsmith to trim the barrel?
My gunsmith will do it. Just considering what I want to do. I got a grand in my gun account and not 100% convinced I want to go the route I had planned. I can get to about the same place simply by buying a FS and trimming the mag bases. A model 19 has caught my eye as well. Christ I am worse than an old woman. Almost $900 for what should be a $650 purchase is a bit abrasive to me. The project I have in mind is awfully compelling. The hook is I really don't need another pistol but then when did "need" ever come into the discussion.
