So ive decided to chop up another perfectly good mosin. why you may ask? well honestly I've had nothing better to do lately except to challenge myself with creating a more fun mosin nagant for my family to shoot at the range, IE. something that is not necessarily "tac-driver" accurate but looks like a more modern rifle. now the reason i chose a M-N is because of the cheap bulk ammunition, .25 cents a round beats a buck when your shooting pop cans at the 100. now most would say i should have bought a .22 or whatever else under the sun but the fact remains i already owned the Mosin and don't have to spend a dime on the old girl. now getting to the point of this post, i am looking for any ideas from people who have completed such a transformation.

like welding a bridge over the stripper clip area to mount a picatinny rail, cutting the barrel and crowning and such.

Welding the stripper clip guide will render your bolt inoperable, plus any kind of welding to a receiver is going to weaken the metal and make a dangerous situation.
You can find scout mounts for the MN or get yourself a side mount and drill and tap the receiver, there is a picatinny rail side mount out there, you will need to do some searching.
Archangel is as "modern" a looking stock you will find readily available, boyds makes stocks too, depending what kind of look you're going for.

I think one way or another you will be spending money on your mods, so why not get an SKS and plop a 30 dollar picatinny railed dust cover on it shoot semi auto fun for even cheaper ammo!?

Modifying a mosin is fine, but will be more expensive and time consuming than grabbing an SK, but to each their own!
I'm guilty of modifying a Mauser to accept 1911 mags and shoot 45acp, and am now working on a 45 win mag!
