Just remove the followers and sand them down. After that, it's a non-issue. Takes about 2 minutes per magazine.

I called S&W on this and the guy said that it's a liability issue. If you make the mag 10rds, guys will try to squeeze in 11. They make the mags 9 rds but you can squeeze in 10 but there is no way that you can squeeze in 11.

You should have told him 9 fit ok but you can't squeeze in 10. I think you got a convenient story. Some of the mags I have seen you could hardly load nine in, never mind 10. The followers are about 1/16tg to 1/8th " just to long. The old ones I have load 10 tightly but 11 would be impossible.

Who knows, maybe S&W didn't want to deal with it. It's most likely they have or changed suppliers for the springs and followers for the different generations of the magazine.

Yep -

I had the same issue - 'had to use the Uplula to get the last few rounds in, and half the time the mag wouldn't seat in the pistol unless I took out that tenth round again.

10/17's work great without mods...but are rare as hens teeth...well, mostly
