Any feedback on the M&P 15 in .22 ? I tried the search function but didn't get any results.
I'm thinking of ordering one for some cheap plinking fun at an indoor range. also any recommendations on a scope, I'd probably be looking for
a little magnification maybe up to 3 or 4 times, but it would only be for this application.

thoughts / opinions

thanks, and Merry Christmas

Great rifle. The thing is that the new hk rifle is out and it has 30 round mags and price is similar
A $50 tasco will do the job on a .22

FF sakes. They made a 416 "P" version. :slap:

My buddy had one of the first M&P15-22. Jammed alot, and finally had a out of battery discarge freeing the ejector and extractor from the bolt face. He sent it for warrenty work and swore he would sell it when it came back...

Now its back and runs like a top.

I think its the best AR practice platform out there to date. All the controls are in the right places, the bolt catch works, and the mags fit in AR belt pouches.

If you dont mind the restricted status, and are ok with 10rnd mags, then its great.

It is polymer so it feels a little light in the hands but its solid.

He hasnt sold it yet, and I dont think he will.

If he does, I might buy it.....

I LOVE mine.
It has been extremely reliable. It has never had a failure in about 3,000 rounds (I think some of the very early ones had extractor issues). The S&W mags and Black Dog 50 round drums are both very reliable, much better than the Butler Creek steel lip crap I use in my 10-22. As far as scopes go: I started with a Vortex Strikefire, but did not like it. I now have a Burris AR332 and am very happy with it. I really like how it takes literally 3 seconds to strip the rifle for cleaning. There are plenty of comparisons on line of the S&W, HK/Walter and Colt/Umarex if you are undecided.

ps: the stock trigger is a bit stiff and gritty. The s&w takes standard AR trigger parts - I just upgraded mine with new parts and springs from Brimstone and it is a huge improvement. Cost under $100 shipped to Canada.

I have one as well with over 10k down the pipe. Other then normal 22lr issues, (occasional dead primer) its run like a top. Definately thinking about picking up a 2nd one and putting a better trigger in it.

They consider it an AR variant. It does look like an AR and disassemble like an AR, plus it has some AR interchangeable internal components (trigger group). The HK 416 and Colt are also restricted.

Love my M&P 15-22. Never had an issue shooting American Eagle. The manual gives a recomendation for ammo to use and not to use. Rapid fire is fun. I have a cheap knock off red dot that works great.
I think the trade off for having a restricted .22 is that it has the same controls of a regular AR.

I have one.

It sucks, and the subsequent craptastic experience with the shop I bought it off has guaranteed that I wont buy from them again, and it's probably the last S&W product I will buy.

Also, on top of all that I had to plug the mag, and it's restricted.
