I have put a lot of thought into which of these two platforms I'll go with for my first AR.
& I still can't really make up my mind.

Let me first say, I've been around AR's & have done a lot of research on the Norinco and the M&P 15 sport, and this is what I've brought it down to; (Keep in mind budget is a major factor)

The Norinco is what it is... A cheap AR, that performs! I know It's China, but what isn't these days?
Fit and finish isn't an issue for me, & i don't care if it not a DD, even reliability isn't a concern as I know this gun would suit my needs during range trips. But as stated, it is what it is...

The M&P 15 sport, is in most cases the winner, (not only, due to owning a m&p 9) but are affordable quality, & knowing you have a well built AR that is reliable and accurate, as for lack of FA and ejection port cover... I'm sure I can live with out these features while it's locked during storage/transport & even when in use at the range, {I'm not fighting in Fallujah or Panjwayi, just punching holes in paper.}

I thought I'd put it out there,
And you can share your experiences

Neither check out the dpms from oneshot or irungun,not sure if oneshot is still offering the free sling or not.
But since you mentioned those two specifically I would take the s&w just due to the fact that some parts (like hand guards) often need work to fit the norc however aside from that the norcs are great ar's and ive owned a couple.
For what its worth ive never used my forward asist on any of my ar's and have never closed my dust for any reason other then for the sake of having it closed.

I chose the Norc recently from Marstar for $529...bought a bunch of FDE Magpul furniture and had fun doing it. HOWEVER...if I had known about all the great deals on AR's from IRG, and other site sponsors that started popping up almost immediately after I bought the Norc I likely would have bought one of those for almost the same $$$. Plus on the Norc the buffer tube is a terrible piece with grinder marks all over it from them trying to make it round in production, otherwise its an okay AR I guess...but I find myself already looking for something nicer.
