Recently, my M&P22 has started to have cycling issues...starts every range session once i get to about 150-200 rounds. Mostly, the slide seems to stick about half way closed after ejecting the fired case and cycling the new round - occassional FTE as well but figure that's a given with a .22 semi. Runs fine with no failures to about 150-200 rounds. Then it starts happening about once every mag or two, then it increases, and by the time I'm up to 250 rounds or so it starts to happen about 4-5 times per mag. At first I thought it was the cold affecting the slide as it's been well below freezing for most of Jan / Feb here in S. Ont. But this morning it was a fairly mild -5 or so...The chamber and ejectors don't seem particularly dirty and I clean after every shoot...although I've been using exclusively Remington Yellow Jackets and I keep hearing about how dirty Remington .22 is.

I realize without more details it's tough to diagnose, but anyone have any ideas on what the problem might be? Again, I just started noticing this problem since the real cold weather hit..Would it be the cold? Is that a likely culprit? I expect -20 to have an effect but figured -5 would not be cold enough? Could it be a weak spring? fouling from the ammo? Anyone else experience the same or similar issue? Any opinions or theories are welcomed....Thanks

I was having a cycling issue for the first 3-4 rounds of every mag, especially when it was cold, a fellow nutter said he lubes the s**t out of his, so I tried that with moly (a bit messy) and it actually cycled really well, now that I have a couple thousand thru it, its loosened up but it still likes to be lubed, now I just give a good dose of g96, played with every different type of ammo (cheap ammo that is, good stuff always cycles but who can afford that in a semi auto) What I found works best for bulk ammo is solid point stuff, and be sure to hold the pistol as stiff as you can so the inertia goes into ejecting.

nice little pistol though isn't it.

Cheers

Depending on the ammo it can get dirty in the chamber and cause sticking cases.I always carry a bore snake and run it thru a couple of times after that many rounds and it seems to cure that problem.

Yeah, it's just too dirty after that many rounds that it is affecting function. Either plan on cleaning it at the 200 round mark at the range or plan on packing it up.

on wednesday i put through 50 rounds of M-22, 50 rounds of federal automatch, 100 rounds of remington target.. then yesterday i put through 200 rounds of mini mags... havent cleaned it yet and it was still cycling fine after 400 rounds

the only way to really know if the cold weather is the culprit would be to take the gun to an indoor range while maintaining the exact same cleaning/lube/ammo.
if it still does the same thing then you know its not the weather then maybe try different ammo.

process of elimination.

Conventional wisdom would suggest oil works better than grease in colder temperatures. If you're using grease, try switching and see if it makes a difference.

Thanks all...I will take all your suggestions and work through the process of elimination - although fouled chamber seems to be the consensus, I'll try the different lube suggestions as well to see if that helps.

And yes, it is a great little pistol otherwise...

I bought it about 9 months ago and it has had no issues as of yet firming all kinds of ammo through it. Really what ever I can get my hands on I shoot. But I will tell you I oil the crap out of it.

I was having similar issues with my SIG 22 conversion. The slide wouldn't go fully back into battery. I took the slide off and greased the rails more and it ran like a champ after that.
