M&P 22 Pistol - UPDATE - 1000 Round Without Cleaning - Post #1

Interested in this as my first .22LR, which I know very little about. Can this be dry fired? Is it as easy to clean as a regular M&P?

I want to practice with this to get better at shooting 9mm polymer striker guns. Would this be recommended, or should I get a Ruger/Buckmark instead?

No on the dry fire. Pg. 24 in the manual says dry firing will damage the gun. It is super easy to break down and clean. WAY easier than a Ruger Mark series.

Trigger feel is a little different, its an internal hammer design rather than striker fired. It has a little take up but breaks nicely. I'd say around 5 pounds. The manual does say not to dry fire which is weird as most modern rimfires can be dry fired no problem. This is the exception I suppose.

I'd say this would be a better trainer due to the full size slide and same feel/operation as a full size striker gun.

The grip is not small. This would be the only downside IMHO.

You might consider a Norc M93 for them. Really small grip. ;)

I just so happen to be selling mine. LOL

Thanks for the idea. Nice plug by the way. :) I have also been looking at the scaled down Browning 1911-22 as an option.

Might be too big for really small hands as stated by mlehtovaara. My 4 and 6 year old's had trouble reaching the trigger, which is to be expected, after all is the exact same size as the M&P9/40 and only a couple ounces lighter. I basically held the gun for them and they just pulled the trigger.
My wife liked it very much and found it easy to grip, which is good because its actually her's, as soon as she gets her RPAL that is.

My two are a bit older 10 and 13. Just need to spend time and see if they can reach the trigger okay. Just been working too much to spend any quality time at home lately.

My wife will not join us at the range. Not interested at all. V:I: Or is it ;)
Hmm...

Had mine out yesterday and I'm really glad that I got it!
No issues at all other than the too accurate/reliable comments I've seen... :D

I'm going to have to buy a pile of mags for this thing, and probably a second gun for my g/f. Once she gets her hands on it, no more cheap practice for me. lol

For the poster asking about dryfiring:
Most rimfires don't do well with dryfiring, but plastic dummy-rounds are readily available, cheap, and protect the gun 100%.

Well i will get right to it.........

FREAKING AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

X10 Love this little gun.

Well got the kids out with the new M&P 22 tonight.
800 plus rounds with 6 different types of ammo.

Gave the gun a quick barrel cleaning and removed the left side safety before we left.

Only 1 FTF with the Winchester 555s. Put bullet back in gun and it went bang second time.

Accuracy is good with 555s and Blazer. With CCI standard and CCI Mini Mag its great.

The left group is 30 rounds of CCI Standard and the right group is 30 rounds of Mini Mag. All at 7 yards free hand.

The M&P22 comes with one mag.

I had mine out for the first time yesterday and my impressions are very much the same as mlehtovaara's. I fired American Eagle 36gr HP's and Federal 525 value pack rounds with no malfunctions. I ordered 3 extra mags with mine.

I have an M&P9 so its very familiar. The backstrap is not removable and is somewhere between the small and medium backstrap of the M&P9/40. the rear sight does not have the dots. I'm not sure I like the rear sight. I might replace it or paint it.

Overall I'm very happy with the M&P22.
Where did u order you extra magazines from I tried ordering off S & M site but at checkout it says won't send to Canada, thanks

I put another 350 rounds through mine today with no issues that I can blame the gun for. I did have two rounds fail to fire. They both had good hard primer strikes just didn't go off. Second time firing them the both went bang. I think it was just poor distribution of priming compound in the rim. I was using cheap Federal Champion 525 bulk packs from Crappy Tire. No other issues. .22 Pistols are a hoot!! I think I'm going to paint the rear sight with some white outlining so it looks like a Glock rear sight.

took mine out last night slide getting stuck in rear position some times. seems to be.a.problem with safety engaging slightly without being touched. disassembled multiple times cleaned and operated safety. problem seemed.to.right itself. put.another.200 rounds through no problems. anyone else having slide.issues ?

no, nothing like that. Could just be a break in issue. What ammo where you using?
