M&P 22 Pistol - UPDATE - 1000 Round Without Cleaning - Post #1

I just saw this thread now.....literally hours after purchasing a .22lr semi pistol. My choices came down to the Ruger 22/45 threaded bbl, Sig 1911-22, and this M&P.22. Since I couldn't decide I asked my son and he picked the Sig.
I hope he picked well........

I used to own one.

Couple problems I had, none of which were reliability or lack of fun. 1) the barrel is locked into place by a single screw, which would loosen off after a couple hundred rounds, causing poor accuracy and groupings to expand. 2) It was just too small in my hand, and I don't have big hands.

It wasn't a bad gun, and I imagine some loc tight would take care of the barrel mounting issues, but honestly there is no comparison between the 2. If you haven't taken it home or fired it yet I would strongly suggest an exchange.

I modified the sights on my M&P22 tonight. I painted the white dot in the front sight with some bright orange fingernail polish of the wife's. The taped off and painted the rear sight white. I took a picture the best I could but it really pops out more now. The pic doesn't due the new sight picture justice.

I just shot mine tonight for the first time. AWESOME!!! I've owned an MP9 for a few years and this thing fits my holsters perfectly and shoots like a dream, What a load of fun.
Giggidy that sight upgrade looks great, may have to copy it.

I could have done a better job on the rear sight. I took it apart and taped it off. The paint seeped under the tape a little so the lines aren't real clean. Also I think I should have made the lines thinner. But it will work for now.

Gah....schools has been really busy and I haven't been to the range in like 2 months now. This thread is hard to watch with mine sitting in the safe unfired. Break week is coming up though...

What do you prefer? RED or BLUE LOCTITE?

mlehtovaara...too late, I received the Sig on Thursday! I took it apart and cleaned it up and tried to locate the screw that held the bbl but couldn't find it. Personally, I really like the fit and finish of the Sig and the mag is well built. As I posted on another thread I put 300rnds of CCI Stingers, CCI Blazer (525) and Win555's(combined first time out) with only one failure on the 17th mag loaded with Win555's. Must have been a dud 'cause the casing was well dented.
The dimensions were equal to my "real" 1911 but a tad lighter. More like the weight of a Commander.
This one is staying in collection and I'll be buying some more mags and bulk ammo real soon.
I spotted the M&P22 in the cabinet at the range along side of the M&P9. They did a real nice job copying it. Maybe next time...

lanis....I think blue would be better just in case you need to take it apart.

Flogged my GSG and picked up a M&P22 best thing I could have done. My GSG was ammo picky , my M&P rips through the ammo without incident or cleaning and seems to be more accurate then my GSG. Awesome little gun.
