Hey guys,

Looking at buying my first handgun and have landed on the m&p 22, like so many others... My question is: could i get the barrel threaded if I wanted to? I know you can buy them with a threaded barrel... But they are hard to find it seems

A bit of an ' * ' here. It seems as if the original run of MP22's had a barrel cap that was threaded. That cap held the barrel sleeve in place. Then the barrel was fixed to the frame near the chamber.

The barrel cap had wrench flats, and a wrench was included, However, the instruction manual said you don't need to remove it, so don't.

@ 2 weeks ago had a chance to view a fairly recent production MP22 and the wrench flats are gone from the barrel cap. No doubt what so ever it's still screwed on and not a 1 piece sleeve combo, but Smith/Walther

seems to have removed the temptation to try.

Thus, if you had planned on using a fake can or comp on an MP22 you have a touch choice to make now vs a few months back. Didn't have the chance to put it under a magnifier or test it much, but I'd bet it's not Loctite Blackmaxed in place. Hair dryer and a twist will tell you in less than a minute.

But I'd be ' Extremely ' careful if I did it. I'm less than 100% certain how they have the barrel retained atm so be cautious.

gl if you try.

If you're barrel nut comes off easy enough it's just a matter of sourcing an after market " Extended & Threaded " one and you're good to go with any accessory you like. Pretty sure I've seen other Gemtech stuff in Canada so I'm betting they have their paper work in order and brownells should be able to send it no big deal if you can't find one at a dealer up here.
