Hi, do any of you have conversion barrels in your M&P's? I found some online while looking through U.S. sites so I'm guessing we can get them.

.357sig barrel for M&P .40 slide:

.40S&W to 9mm barrel:

If any dealers have these, please let me know, I don't want to post in all your forums. If you've used one or know where to get one, please speak up.

I've heard one source say you need to use the conversion barrel to go from 40S&W to 9mm, and others have said the factory barrel will do it. Someone told me you might even be able to use the factory 40 magazine and fit 12 rounds in it.

I just asked this question not too long ago. I went directly to S&W, and they said a 357 SIG barrel was a straight drop in for the M&P40 (nothing else required) and that the 357 SIG barrel could be purchased from S&W for $92 US +S&H. As for the 9mm Conversions for the M&P40, an outfit called Storm Lake Barrels makes them (They're on the internet) and a number of retailers carry them. But now you'll need a different magazine for the 9mm and then there's the question: Will an M&P40 Slide/Bolt Face handle a 9mm cartridge properly? To be honest I couldn't tell you because it's not something I've looked into, but if I were you I'd look into it and get all the answers prior to purchasing a 9mm conversion barrel - you could email S&W directly with your questions and they usually reply within a day or two. Good Luck

I've heard there is no problem with base of the 9mm cartridge fitting. Just a question of whether its cost effective to get the storm lake barrel here.

With any device that carries an explosive charge within it, I tend towards the cautious side of things and I am by no means an expert (ie: not a gunsmith). As for what I hear, or read on the Internet - and it is not my intention to disparage anyone by saying this - well potentially anybody with a keyboard is an expert, so even though I often seek advice, in the end I always do my homework. As for the 9mm - 40S&W there is a 0.03" difference in the Outside Diameters (OD). Is this inconsequential? Will the firearm function properly? I honestly do not know, as I have no personal experiences to draw from. As for being cost effective, well if there is a Canadian alternative I would dearly love to hear about it and I'm not saying it doesn't exist, just that I haven't heard about it -surprise, surprise, I don't know everything! Well there's a news flash!:D

There is a website, mp-pistol.com where they discuss the 9mm conversion of the M&P 40. Apparently despite the difference in base of the cartridge, it works and extracts, claim those who say they've done it.

Absolutely - the only difference between the .40 and the 9 is/are the barrel and the magazine. Same extractor, same ejector, same recoil spring assembly - the works. I'm currently running 9/.40/.357 out of the same gun with no issues whatsoever. 3 barrels, 2 sets of mags, 1 pistol...

what about 45?
