M&P .40 Mag Issue NEED HELP

Anyone heard of mags releasing from an m&p while firing???

Causes stove pipe or double feed. VERY frustrating.

Is there a quick fix or is gun smithing needed??

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Stronger mag release spring - call Smith and tell them what's happening and they'll probably send you another one for free...

The malfs you're describing sound like something else, how old is your M&P? This was an issue with the very early production guns. When it was a known issue, the mags would simply drop free when the trigger was pulled because they weren't properly seated. They changed the design of the mag release to stop it - sounds like you need a new mag release. The part is user replaceable - you'd have to remove it to change the side the mag release is on. Give Murray Charlton Enterprises a call and maybe they'll just send you a new one. Incidentally, are your mags doing this when downloaded by one? If they aren't maybe all you need to do is take a small amount of plastic off the feet of the follower, to allow the mags to fully seat when loaded. The mag release spring is, to my knowledge, molded into the grip and not replaceable.

I have a few spare parts. I'm unsure of how old it is. I have replaced the mag release but it still seems like the tab is not sufficient to hold the mag in place or the knotch where the release sets is too big allowing the mag to rattle free during firing. I'm not really sure where to go from here. I love the pistol if it weren't for this major issue.

Is the spring seated completely in the back of the notch?

i think this was their teething issue. something to do with the magazine release spring, there is a kit for that issue made by smith

the spring is seated. i don't know. maybe I should take it to a gun smith and see what they say. money i don't want to invest

are you inserting the mag with the slide closed? i have a mp9 that when you insert a mag into the firarm with the slide closed will reprodece the same issue, after reading...mayby the owners manual i dicoverd proper operation is to firmly insert mag into firearm with open slide(as if you were reloading)this causes the slide to release and chamber a round....tried it works great! rtfb!
