M&P .45 ACP Vs Glock 21 SF

"The S&W is not far behind in price."

Huh! The S&W sells for less and that is before the two mag rebate and the $50.00.

The S&W web site now shows models with 5" barrels and a new "Pro" series. I wonder when we will see them hit our shores.

Take Care

I can never figure out why those who shoot .40S&W seem to be afraid of .45ACP.

.40 is a very high-pressure round, and the snap that is felt when shooting it out of tupperware reminds me a lot of full-house .357MAG in my revolver.

.45 on the other hand, is mild - A big "push", rather than a kick in the gonads that rattles the molars. And, you can reload and reload and reload and reload the brass. I know it's more expensive if you're not reloading, but if you are... T'is the only way to go, IMHO.

And hey, if you can only put 10 rounds in your magazine, you may as well make them as big as possible, right?

Very true! A .45 has to be a 1911 or Sig 220 for style and smooth trigger!!!

Trigun

There are some of us who simply do not like the feel or the ergonomics of a 1911 ... I've never shot the Sig.
I too am contemplating the M&P. ;)

Right on there.
I have yet to shoot a .40 that I can truely say was comfortable (a recoil wussy?... maybe ;)).
The .45 on the other hand, in the right firearm, is almost as pleasant as the 9mm (the XD-45 comes to mind).

Now back to your regulary scheduled thread!

my stainless .45 P220 has about the same recoil as my M&P9mm... I'm not a .40 fan (due to price of ammo vs 9mm) but in a 1911 platforn it's pretty tame, even in P226 it's fairly mild. I guess to me 9mm .40 & .45 all recoil abut the same :)

Get the one that fits...

X4

Get the one that fits your hand best. Personally, having a lot of experience with the Glock 22 model I find the G21/G20 series a tad big for my hand comfort. I do like the change-out grip option of the S&W M&P's. I'd do a side by side comparison before choosing one or the other in .45ACP.

But really, the only other .45ACP I'd consider over a 1911 single stack would be the CZ97 pistola. I've handled a couple of them now & it fits me well, too.

I'm not a CZ fan, but I do like the 97 model as well the grip is nice and big just like the Beretta's :). I've seen a pic from the shot show of a deckoker model...might have to pick one up.

Really like the cant of the sf frame. I didn't find too much of a grip size difference b/w 21sf and 21. I have several acquaintances at the range that have gone M&P in .45, but I also have several LE contacts that were issued the .40's for duty and found them inferior to the Glock's that they use at the range. Try them head-to-head, but if you weren't a glock fan before, you'll be one now. For me, the 21sf is the best tupperware I've owned yet and I keep trying to fall headfirst off the glock-wagon on a regular basis.

I own a M & P .45 and love it. It fits my hands better than the Glock 21SF and the Springfield XD45. The one issue I had was a real wake up for me. First time at the range with my new gun. Took gun from case, removed trigger lock, locked slide to rear and set pistol down to load mag. Finished loading mag, picked up pistol, inserted mag, gave base of mag a slight "wack" to ensure it was seated and.......the slide dropped all by itself. I thought "That's not right....wonder if it chambered a round." I ejected the mag, racked the slide and ejected a live round. Scary the first time it happens. Now that I know about this I am ok with it. As everyone is saying buy the one that fits your hands.

Hehe, I knew about that long before a live round got fed into mine. My A-Zoom snap caps hardly have any paint left on them from the beating they took while I waited for my ATT. What surprised me was the time I fired it without my plugs in, there's a mistake I won't make twice, took about 5 minutes for the ringing to stop.

I have the M&P in 9mm- Sold my Glock a month later cause I was so happy...A year after that, I am looking at buying a Glock 21SF, only because I want something different to shoot than the M&P in .45. You won't go wrong with either pistol. The G21 SF is great, and parts will be easy to get (if you ever need them). The M&P 45 points naturally, fits the hand nice, and so far has a good reputation.. but it dosn't have the Glock history. If you can afford them, buy one of each! Hard choice.
