M&P .45 First impressions

I, myself, have not experienced the mag dropping issue. If it is a known problem, S&W will take care of you for sure as they offer great customer service.

As for the slide closing when you slam in a mag. It will do this 100% of the time if you hit hard enough and at the right angle. You can slam all day straight up (perpendicular to the slide) and the slide will not close. Any moderate force at an angle of about.. I would guess 30-45 degrees from perpendicular and the slide will close 100% of the time. You kinda have to hit up and forward to get this feature to work.

Oh and it is a feature and not a defect. The Shadow has this feature. Glock 34 too. HK P30/HK45 do it. I believe the Beretta 92 does as well. I'm sure there are others but I'm just naming some well known and popular guns so people know it's not a defect.

Most autopistols will occasionally do it... My issue 5946 OCCASIONALLY does it - I just don't want to come to expect it happening, as it will defeat years of manipulation practice for reloads... Or, I'll keep ejecting live rounds when I rack the slide anyway!

Irritating, but not fatal.

With the pistol training I've been doing, the slide is racked on every reload, so this feature costs me a round out of the chamber every time I reload. It's kind of annoying. I've been trying to find just the right amount of force to seat the mag and not have the slide drop.

I use my M&P40 for IPSC - reloading on the move, and reloading like you should - 100% auto-rack - appreciate this feature greatly, as realoading is intentional, and assumes you are going to keep firing (that's why I reloaded) - no additional safety or slide release to mess around with, make it one "quick to use" firearm.

Had a malfunction the other night - setup a maze, and fired at night - I guess during the course, Ihad my left hand holding the flashlight, resting on top of my shooting wrist, and I got it too close to the slide - slide came back and punched me in the left hand...no injury, just a click, and a "haha, I saw that" from the RSO...

Good choice on the M&P

I have had my S&W M&P 9mm for a while now and have over a 1000 rounds through it and have no complaints. I do find when I put the mag in with some force that the slide does close by itself which I personally Like. Shoots accurate and is a Blast at the Range! In Regards to a holster I ordered this one off of Ebay for $20 with taxes/shipping and it works great with my M&P. http://cgi.ebay.ca/Gun-Mag-Vertical-Shoulder-Holster-Fit-Baretta-Glock-HK-/350389904039?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5194dda2a7. It took a good 3 weeks to arrive to BC but I think I made the right choice.
I would recommend this gun to any new gun enthusiasts as this is my first gun and I am very happy.

I own a 9 mm and .40 4.25" and a 9mm Pro. All three have had lots and lots of rounds through them with the .40 being close to 8,000 and never once have I had any problem including FTF or FTE.
